Barun Sobti turns down Scripts Featuring Kissing Scenes Due to THIS reason

There are a few actors in our industry who have a no-kiss policy and Barun Sobti is one of them. Throughout his 15-year career, he has never kissed on screen. Although he has participated in intimate scenes (like in Kohrra) and even went fully nude for a short film titled Derma, he firmly believes that kissing is off-limits for him. Last year, Barun shared that this decision is rooted in an unspoken promise he made to his then-girlfriend, now wife, Pashmeen Manchanda, when they were young adults. She had asked him if being an actor would mean “going around kissing everyone.”

In a chat with News18 Showsha, he says, “I haven’t kissed anyone onscreen. However, I’ve rarely had to reject work because of that. I’ve been very, very lucky as the people who wanted to cast me really wanted me, and they were okay with removing the kissing scenes from the script. Maybe they saw my skill set and thought that a kiss wasn’t a very relevant part of the story. If I’ve rejected something, it was mostly because I thought the script wasn’t very good."

He has only had to come up with an excuse about date issues on a few occasions. “Sometimes, the sexual dynamic between two characters is very important to the script. In such instances, there’s no point in requesting them to cut out the kissing. So, at those times, I’ve told them that I’m not available. I only give such scripts a chance when I know we can do without a kissing scene. And whenever I’ve asked if we could remove such scenes, they’ve agreed because they weren’t integral to the story," he states.

In recent years, with web series like Kohrra and Asur, Barun has been seen exploring unconventional roles. However, he believes that taking risks is not a new concept for him. “That’s what got me in. If I had played it safe, I would’ve been a very rich man today, doing very bad work. I’m not very rich, and I’m not very greedy because I know there’s no end to money. I’m glad I have a decent body of work and I’m reasonably well-off, which means I’ve been experimenting throughout my career," he says.
