The announcement came via a statement from Saira's lawyer, Vandana Shah, revealing the emotional challenges that led to their separation. The couple, who tied the knot in 1995, share two daughters, Khatija and Raheema, and a son, Ameen.
The statement explained, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. Despite their deep affection, they have faced emotional strains that created an unbridgeable gap. Mrs. Saira asks for privacy and understanding during this tough period." This heartfelt message shed light on the couple’s struggles and the need for respect during their personal transition.
Shortly after the news broke, their son AR Ameen took to Instagram to address the matter. In a brief yet sincere note, he wrote, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. In a resurfaced interview with Rahmaniac.com, AR Rahman shared fond memories of meeting Saira for the first time. Recalling their story, he said, “In 1994, when I was about twenty-seven, I decided it was time to get married. My mother and sister first saw Saira at a Sufi saint’s shrine in Chennai. Everything happened so easily.” Fans admired their love story, making the news of their separation even more surprising.
