As Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai completed 25 years, Anil Kapoor revisited memories from the film, recalling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s casting and remembering director Satish Kaushik.
In a post marking the milestone, Kapoor shared stills from the 2000 drama and spoke of the circumstances that brought Aishwarya into the project. The film, which also starred Sonali Bendre, became one of the biggest hits of its year.
Kapoor revealed that while shooting Taal, he had been struck by Aishwarya’s ability and recommended her to Satish Kaushik. “I was impressed by her talent and suggested her name to Naidu Saab and Satish ji. At first, there were some reservations, but once Satish saw her on set, he was convinced. The rest, as they say, is history,” he wrote.
The actor went on to disclose that Aishwarya nearly opted out before filming began. “Ironically, just before shooting began, Aishwarya had some concerns and almost stepped away. Satish and I went to her home, had a heartfelt conversation, and thankfully, she decided to stay on board,” Kapoor shared.

Reflecting on the outcome, he added, “I’m so glad she did, because the film went on to become a super hit, loved by both the trade and the audience. Grateful for the memories, the magic we created, and for my friend Satish, whom I miss dearly every day.”
Directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Boney Kapoor, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai was adapted from the 1997 Telugu film Pelli Chesukundam. It told the story of love, stigma, and acceptance, striking a chord with audiences at the time.
Along with Kapoor, Aishwarya, and Bendre, the cast included Rajeev Khandelwal, Puru Raaj Kumar, Anang Desai, Anupam Kher, Mukesh Rishi, Johnny Lever, and Himani Shivpuri.
Two and a half decades later, Kapoor’s recollections highlight not only the film’s commercial journey but also the behind-the-scenes uncertainties that shaped it. For him, the anniversary doubles as a tribute to Satish Kaushik, whose presence he called “irreplaceable.”
As Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai marked 25 years, Anil Kapoor remembered late director Satish Kaushik and recalled Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s casting. Kapoor revealed he suggested her name during Taal’s shoot, though she nearly walked away before filming. A heartfelt conversation convinced her to stay, shaping one of 2000’s most successful films.
