Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' all set to hit the screens on February 25

Ever since the news of Alia and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s collaboration broke out, fans became eager to know what cinematic magic is now in store for them. 

Today came as a massive surprise for all Alia Bhatt fans who had been waiting for the release of her upcoming movie, Gangubai Kathiawadi. 

The makers of the movie have officially announced that the upcoming biographical film will release theatrically on February 25, 2022.

The makers took to their social media pages to announce the same and said, 

“Witness her reign in cinemas near you on 25th February 2022 #GangubaiKathiawadi.”

Previously, the release date of the biographical film was scheduled to be January 6, 2022. However, owing to the sudden spike in COVID 19 cases, the theatrical release date of the movie was postponed by the makers. 

Speaking about the film, it is a period film, adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi's book, 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'. 

It will feature Bhatt in the titular role of Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved and respected madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s.

In a previous interaction with a news portal, SLB had opened up about the film. He said that Gangubai Kathiawadi is a very special film to him. The filmmaker stated that it has not been easy.

He further added that they made it during the pandemic he has have given it all and can’t wait to share it with everyone.

The film also stars Seema Pahwa and has cameo appearances by Ajay Devgn and Huma Qureshi.
