Actress Adah Sharma expressed her gratitude towards the millions of people who watched The Kerala Story and made it a trending movie. Adah, who plays one of the main characters in the movie, took to her social media handles to thank the viewers for their support and appreciation. She also shared a picture of herself in a saffron dress and garland around her neck from the film.
The actress thanked fans for their love towards her performance and informed that the film would release in 37 countries worldwide over the weekend. It read, "Thank you to all the crores of you who are going to watch our film, thank you for making it a trend, and thank you for loving my performance. This weekend the 12th #TheKeralaStory releases internationally in 37 countries (or more) ❤️❤️ #adahsharma."
Adah's tweet comes amid the controversy surrounding the movie, with some calling for a ban and criticizing the film for being a propaganda piece. On Tuesday, the actress had shared a tweet stating that "sometimes the most unlikely person can alter the course of history," with regards to The Kerala Story. Earlier, Adah had also responded to critics who claimed that the incidents depicted in the movie do not exist, by asking them to Google "ISIS and Brides" and read about the testimonials of Indian victims.
Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in lead roles. The movie was released in cinemas on May 5, and the trailer came under fire for its claim that 32,000 girls from Kerala state went missing and later joined ISIS. In response to backlash, the makers withdrew the figure and changed the trailer description to describe the movie as the story of three women from Kerala.
On May 8, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered an immediate ban on the screening of The Kerala Story in the state, citing the need to prevent "any incident of hatred and violence."
The controversy surrounding the movie has generated significant interest among movie-goers and critics alike, with many debating the accuracy and impact of its storyline. However, Adah Sharma's tweet seems to suggest that the movie has garnered a significant following and support from fans worldwide.
