In just a few more days, 2016 will bid us adieu. We, at BollyCurry, can't help but rewind the tape and take a look at the various things that have happened in Bollywood this year. From weddings to divorces, link-ups to splits, comebacks to MIAs, and the unfortunate depart of talented souls, Bollywood has had its fair share of drama. Today, lets talk about not only comebacks, but also actors who went MIA this year!
On to the comebacks first.
The pretty actress made her debut with Cocktail in 2012 alongside Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, and rose to fame immediately. Post her debut, she received various offers but nothing interested her. Well, 2016 finally saw her back in action with Happy Bhaag Jayegi. Even though the movie received mixed reviews from the critics, it managed to do well at the box office. Penty was highly appreciated for her stint as Happy, a happy-go-lucky Amritsar girl, who speaks her mind at all times. We hope we see her soon in the coming year!
This actress made her debut in 2005 with the movie Yahaan, but truly got her big break years later in the form of The Lunchbox (2013). However, the actress then went MIA from Bollywood for three years. In the meantime Kaur appeared in a supporting role in the fourth season of the American series Homeland. We finally got to see her back this year in the Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift. The movie was appreciated by both viewers and critics alike, and Kaur was lauded for her impactful performance. Currently the actor stars in the second season of the American television series Wayward Pines as Rebecca Yedlin.
One actor that made the news for various reasons apart from his acting skills is Fawad Khan. He was already a favorite in Indian households all thanks to his successful Pakistani dramas "Humsafar" and "Zindagi Gulzar Hai". The handsome Pakistani actor made his Bollywood debut with Khoobsurat (2014) opposite Sonam Kapoor. 2016 seemed very bright for the actor when he made his comeback with Kapoor & Sons. But growing tensions between India and Pakistan gave him a setback when he was asked to leave the country. While his other movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil did see release, it was shrouded in controversy. We can only hope that the tension diminishes between the two countries and we get to see the actor soon in action!
Another pretty actress who is all set to make a comeback is Vaani Kapoor. After her debut in Shuddh Desi Romance (2013), the actress went missing from Bollywood. In 2014, she essayed the lead in the Tamil romantic comedy Aha Kalyanam, which was a remake of Maneesh Sharma's Hindi film Band Baaja Baaraat (2010). She was recently seen in Aditya Chopra's Befikre alongside Ranveer Singh. We hope this girl is here to stay!
On the other hand, there were a few actors who were totally missing in action this year. Let's have a look below!
Last seen in the movie Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), the actress did not star in any movies this year. Even though she was missing from the silver screen this year, she managed to remain in the limelight, whether good or bad. 2016 has definitely been one of the more eventful years of her life due to her clash with Hrithik Roshan. Keeping controversies aside, the actress will be back soon in Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon (2017). She also has movies like Simran and Ketan Mehta's biopic on Rani Laxmibai lined up for next year.
2016 has been lucky for the dusky beauty when it came to her personal life. The actress got hitched to her beau Karan Singh Grover earlier this year and it likely has been one of the best years of her life going by her social media. While we last saw Basu in Alone (2015), there are no confirmed upcoming movies. We hope she chooses to grace the silver screen soon again!
When we talk about MIA actors, one cannot exclude Deepika Padukone from the list. The actress ended 2015 on a high note; even though Tamasha was a box office disappointment, her last venture Bajirao Mastani, opposite beau Ranveer Singh, fetched a fabulous response from audiences and critics alike. While we missed her on the screen this year, the actress was still around enough to appease her loyal fans. The upcoming year appears like it will be more productive for the lass. She already has numerous movies in her kitty, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati being one of them.
Khan was last seen in Phantom (2015), which didn't really work at the box office. The actor chose to be MIA this year when it came to his professional life. But he definitely made headlines when the news of him becoming a dad hit the channels. While we definitely wish him the best of luck for his new role in his personal life, we hope that he is able to come back with a bang in Rangoon.
2016 has definitely been a rollercoaster year with many ups and downs. Despite their appearance or disappearance, some stars were in the spotlight for all the right reasons and some for the wrong reasons. We hope that no one goes missing in action next year and are excited for all the actors who are going to make their comebacks in 2017. As we sign off 2016, BollyCurry wishes success to all the actors for the upcoming year! Missed your favorite actor? Let us know in the comments section below.
