Abaan Deohans on Manjoj Bajpayee starrer 'Silence 2's vision: " There have to be twists and turns or else..."

Manoj Bajpayee and Prachi Desai starrer film 'Silence 2' recently released on ZEE5 and has been receiving rave reviews from the critics and audiences alike. Amid the buzz India Forums got in touch with the director of the film, Abaan Deohans to know her views on filmmaking and choosing thriller as a theme of her film. 

When questioned, As a director, what is your vision when it comes to storytelling? Are there specific themes or elements you aim to explore in your projects, she said, "My vision as a storyteller is to tell an engaging and compelling story that the audience can connect to in terms of a situation, character, motive, or reason behind why something was said or done. Since it is a murder mystery, the theme explored here delves into the darker side of human nature. Sometimes, individuals will go to any extent to achieve a certain goal, no matter how diabolical it may be."

When asked, How did you work on creating and maintaining a suspenseful atmosphere throughout the film, especially in the context of the murder mystery, she expressed, "In a murder mystery, it is very important that the audience is really engaged and guessing all the time. So, you have to provide clues strategically throughout the movie. We can't make them obvious; you have to scatter them in such a way that the audience needs to piece them together. Then you need to scatter various things; you have to lead the audience at the wrong parts."

She further added, "There have to be multi-dimensional characters, each with their own motives and having the potential of being the culprit. You must maintain pacing; discoveries of new evidence or encounters with suspects all have to happen at certain intervals to keep the audience guessing. There have to be twists and turns; you have to incorporate unexpected plot twists and revelations which challenge audience assumptions and keep them guessing."

Concluding on her thoughts she mentioned, "There is also a time pressure that if you don't solve the case in this time period, then the culprit will escape, or the team will be shut down. The whole thing is the information has to be rolled out in pieces. We have to reveal pieces of the puzzle at pivotal moments to maintain the intrigue and to save big revelations for the climax."

The film is a stand-alone sequel to the film 'Silence: Can You Hear It' also starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead.
