From the core concepts to execution of their ideas, there has been a humongous change in the evolution of television.
One of the major changes that television has adopted, is the
inclusion of full-fledged songs (namely title tracks) and elaborate dance
numbers. Gone are the days where Bollywood songs would form the crux of shows. Well, they still are an important part in the shows, but matching their levels and sometimes even surpassing them are fresh, new and original soundtracks of shows.
Here is a list of some popular television title tracks and other original show songs that audience
still love to listen to. And they probably are on a lot of people's playlist too....
This serial gave us outstanding reel, as well as real life jodis. And a major chunk of credit for the show becoming a cult can be easily given to the music of it. The show's peppy title track, 'hulchal ho dil mein miley jab hum tum' was a massive hit. The fandom of Mayank (Arjun Bijlani) and Nupur (Rati Pandey), affectionately called 'MaYur' can boast of the song Do Dil Ek Jaan'. And of course, the most loved reel and real life jodi, Samrat (Mohit Sehgal) and Gunjan (Sanaya Irani), affectionately called 'SaJan' had the romantic track, 'kuch aur nahi yeh pyaar hai'. Both the songs as well as the serial, was an instant hit with the masses.
A show which gave the extremely popular jodi, Zain (Harshad Arora) and Aaliya (Preetika Rao) had an amazing title track which was loved by the ardent followers. The amount of love this on-screen pair enjoys is so mammoth that the fans would love to see the duo getting paired opposite each other only in the future shows too. The affectionately called 'ZaYa' are missed by the fans dearly and a beautiful song marking their chemistry is still a favourite for many.
Another Ekta Kapoor production that hit off instantly with the masses, 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' is one of the most popular shows currently. The extremely loved on-screen pair of Raman (Karan Patel) and Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi) lovingly called IshRa certainly became popular owing to their chemistry. But the title track which goes with the lyrics kabhi kum naa hongi yeh chahatein' is loved by the viewers dearly. A song which automatically brings out the romance in you was so influential that recently, in the real life, when Divyanka who got engaged to co-actor Vivek Dahiya (who plays ACP Abhishek in the show) danced to the same tunes on their ceremony.
Though this serial is long gone off air, the innumerable fans are still in the hopes of a second season. This light hearted comedy based on an upper middle class Gujarati family was a huge hit with one and all. To top it all, the show even had a title track with words like 'hypocrisy mein jeete yeh saare hai', giving the viewers a slight preview of what the show was all about. And the icing on the cake was the star cast itself, that comprised of Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rupali Ganguly and Rajesh Kumar. The tunes are hummed even today.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah
It is one of the longest running shows of all time and you may not come across many people who would have said that he is 'bored' of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah (TMKOC). Just as people are not tired of the soap, they equally enjoy the show's title track as well. Even though it is not as musically influenced like other tracks, it still gets across its point to the viewers. In a narrative form, the title track introduces all of its ensemble cast.
Very few songs give you goosebumps and the title track of 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' is sure to do that. The song has a Rajasthani folk feel making it apt to go with the flavour of the show. The lines like 'tumne jo dekhe sapne suhane, un sapnon ko apna banane' which sure gives us all some relationship goals and tells you what is the show all about. Topping all of it, the veteran music composer-singer, Kailash Kher has composed this song.
The title track of 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' signifies the dream of so many girls where she dreams of a Prince Charming to come and take her away. The show's long journey of Akshara (Hina Khan) and Naitik's (Karan Mehra) happy married life makes you feel that who would not want to have a better half like either of them, who stand by each other through thick and thin. And this is exactly what the title track conveys too. It also describes how gradual and sweet is the process of love.
This serial traces the journey of two sisters Gopi (Devoleena Bhattacharjee) and Raashi(Rucha Hasabnis) and how they handle their post-marriage life and their in-laws. Apart from the lyrics wherein they request their 'saathiya' as in better-half to always be by their side and support them in difficult, don't you think that this whole song has a 'Sooraj Barjatiya type' feel to it?
Dil Dosti Dance
The apparent first ever dance based fiction show, 'Dil Dostii Dance' (D3) went on to become one of the most loved shows by the youth especially. The show amazingly portrayed friendship, love, sibling bonds and many more feelings. And one of the major aspects of a dance based show having good music. The show excelled in it with a lovely title track which was actually a mantra to live a fun life
by fulfilling your dreams.
The serials these days not only prefer original title tracks but also an original background score. With issues of copyright rising, the production houses feel that originality is the best. And also, with these tracks acting as the icing on the cake for a show, why not go all out with this concept?
