As the year fast approaches it's end, we all glance back and wonder amazed that despite a few box office abysmals, 2011 brought a healthy plate of unique hits that sent the cash registers ringing. To list the movies that have performed well is a task that any theater can provide hence, your very own BollyCurry has taken on a twist and have decided to give you a top 10 of BollyCurry favorites!
Conducting a vote between members of BollyCurry, we bring you the top 10 movies that are on our list!
10. Speedy Singhs (Breakaway)
This
funny man Russell Peters film became a hit among youth both abroad and
in India alike. The movie not only was a great rib-tickling comedy but
also a provided a much needed platform of cultural conflicts the
children of NRI's struggle against.
9. Mausam
Directed by Pankaj Kapoor, starring son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, Mausam was
a love story between a couple who finally surpass all trials and
tribulations and unite after being separated multiple of time due to
circumstances. Once again, not in favor of the critics, the movie
however was loved by audiences across the world.
Bringing
back the three Deols, this movie emerged as a surprise package compared
to the first home production the three dwelled in. The film's plus
point had to lie in the fact that that the actors made fun of each
others previous movies as well as getting the audiences nostalgic with
the old yet favorite dialogues.
This
Yash Raj Productions film was an epic comedy with a touch of romance,
with Imran Khan setting out to find his brother (Ali Zafar) a wife and
ending up falling for her (Katrina Kaif) instead! A heart warming
entertainer gelled with good music, it's hard not to be entertained by
this typical YRF production.
A
story of an NRI groom Manu (Maddy) coming to India to find himself a
bride and falling in love with the rebellious local girl, Tanu (Kangna),
who rejects him and uses him to elope with her boyfriend, only to
realize her right partner is Manu. Amidst hilarious scenarios, the film
lead away with it's unconventional situations and right dose of
romance.
First
under the production house of Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza, this light
hearted movie was loved by all. Even if it didn't receive much
appreciation from critics, fans and the public loved the sweet and
innocent love stories between the couples in the movie, placing it slap
bang in the middle of our list!
4. Delhi Belly
This
satirical comedy earned much critical acclaim as well as praise from
the audience. Labeling the movie as "fresh", the story revolves around
three friends who get into a tiff with a mobster due to a
misunderstanding. The movie follows how the three try to escape their
situation but end up getting into bigger problems.
This
controversial drama, based on the Jessica Lall murder case, garnered
much appreciation for Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee in their roles as
sister of the victim and reporter respectively. An emotional
drama portraying the leading ladies in a never before seen avatar, the
film threw light on probably the most talked about case of India.
2. Bodyguard
Blockbuster
after blockbuster, Salman Khan did it yet again this year with this
romantic action drama. A love story between a girl and her bodyguard,
the innocent yet gripping love story touched the hearts of everyone who
watched. Great music coupled with amazing actions sequences, this masala entertainer is a must watch, Salman fan or not!
A
coming-of-age film of three friends who go on a 'bachelor's vacation'
before their friend's wedding, the movie humbly endorses the message to
get over your fears and live life in the moment. A memorable film with
the right dose wit, the movie not only garnered a blockbuster status at
the box-office but was also a hit among the public, thanks to wonderful
job done by Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay along with Katrina and Kalki, all
reigned in by debutante director, Zoya Akhtar. Hence, why this movie
tops our list of best movies of 2011!
Other contending movies that missed the list just by an inch are: Don 2, Ready, Ra.One, Murder 2, Rockstar as well as many others!
