Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Today marks the 14th anniversary of the film, a charming and lovely story about first loves, heartbreaks, college, and growing up. This coming-of-age movie, which also served as Abbas Tyrewala's directorial debut, was commended for its candor and creative perspective on friendships and relationships. While, Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza (Jai and Aditi) were highly lauded for their acting in the film, it had a number of underdogs who shone on the big screens with even a minimal yet captivating presence.
Here are the underdogs of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na:
Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah played Amar Singh Rathore, Jai's father in the film. What was amusing, entertaining about his character and grabbed the attention of the audience was the fact that he was shown dead in the film. Adding a fun element to the plot, he would talk with (Ratna Pathak Shah) his wife, as a portrait and that is hung on the wall. Being in the same attire and setting throughout the film, Naseer managed to crack up the viewers with his one-liners and witty banters with his wife.
Prateik Babbar
Amit Mahant, Aditi's brother, was portrayed by Prateik Babbar. The fictional Amit adored being a hermit in his own little universe. Any sibling duo can relate to Prateik Babbar's sentiments as a guarded brother who finds a best friend in his sister. This was Prateik's debut in the industry as well.
Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan
Arbaaz khan as Kuber Baloo Singh Rathore, and Sohail Khan as Vinay Bagheere Singh Rathore Jai's long-lost cousins from Ranjhor were a sight to behold when they were riding a horse on the streets of Mumbai. Their light-hearted comic scenes offered a significant charm to their personas.
Paresh Rawal
You would probably despise Paresh Rawal's portrayal as Inspector P. K. Waghmare, yet his acting certainly stole the show. You can emulate his deceptive demeanour and accent when you mouth the word "love." While had a minimal screen presence, Paresh Rawal gave one of his best performance as the brutish police inspector.
Manjari Fadnnis
You believed that Meghna Pariyar, Jai's girlfriend, could be a lead in another movie thanks to Manjari Fadnnis' portrayal of her. The audience was able to empathise with her character because of her innocence, sweetness, and compassion. She touched the hearts of millions, whether it was because of how she handled her parents' divorce or her own heartbreak.
Who was your favourite character from the above mentioned list?
