AS: Sarla
She is a young girl. She is bubbly,chiry, cheerful , interested in khel kood just like any other young girl of her age. She doesn't understand the concept of marriage. She loves throwing riddles at people. She cant sleep in the afternoon. She is very mischievous. Despite being 18 years in age she still is a early teenager in her nature and behaviour. She loves dressing up and is always dressed in heavy sari, jewellery, etc, more than getting happy at the prospect of getting married, she is excited at the prospect that after marriage she will be able to wear loads of jewellery. She is very intelligent. And nobody can make a fool of her. She has a heart of gold. She hates milk and always give her glass of milk with Dhaani. She likes Amber as he does not stop her from doing all her mischief. They share a very sweet relationship.
AS: Amber
He is a young, handsome well educated young boy. He runs his father Badrinarayan's sugar mill. He respects and loves his father Badrinarayan a lot and thinks whatever he is today is because of him. His father also loves him the most out of all his children and listens to everything his son says. On one hand everyone is scared of Badrinarayan whereas Ambar is the only one who is not scared of him and is the only one who has the guts to say what he wants in front of his father. Ambar respects women a lot. He does not believe in the old reeti riwaaz that go against the rights of women and always raises his voice against them. He is very sensitive and can't see anyone in pain or trouble and he tries to help them in every way he can.
AS: Sudha
She is a loving, doting Maa'very protective about her daughter'She is self-dependant' and earns her livelihood by selling handmade dolls. She has single handedly raised her daughter after her husband's death. She is a woman of determination and strong character. She had promised her dying husband that she will get dhaani married to a very nice boy of a good family. and this dream is in her eyes since Dhaani was a small girl. Day and night she has just one dream and that is of seeing dhaani as a bride. She has good relations with all the people of the village she stays in. She is very helpful. She and Dhaani are more like friends than mother daughter. Dhaani's mother knows a lot of home remedies and dhaani has also learnt these nuskhas from her. Once disguised as a Naukrani, she uses these nuskhas in her sasural as well and impresses them.Dhani;s mother can also do tailoring job and the women form the village come to her with small stitching jobs. She is a very good host and does not let anyone go away from her house without making them eat anything. She feels that the blessings of people are going to help her. she is very helpful and lively
AS: Taiji
A very finicky lady about jaat-paat, jootha-saaf, riti riwaaz. She believes a lot in cast and creed. She sprinkes ganga jal on everything every morning and does not allow her things to be touched by someone of another caste without sprinkling the holy water on it. even if the shadow of a small caste person falls on her she immediately takes a bath. In the house she is on good terms with all. She thinks Uma is very innocent and people around can fool her easily and so she keeps so she keep on instructing Uma for every small thing. She has all the keys of house, store room etc. she takes care of the ghar khar. She keeps a count n check on everything and even if one thing goes missing from the house she creates havoc. She is of the thinking that a man runs the house and should be taken care of.well. In her dialect she uses words like kaichi ki terah katar katar juban chalati hai'aise phur-phur kar bhaagi..toote ke jaise tarr-tarr kya kar rahin hai'ishe goes to the temple at every given opportunity and fom there gets the news of the entire village. For her women should be confined to the house duties and listen to every thing the husband says. She is a strict mother in-law to Prema. She desperately wants a grandson and leaves no opportunity to remind prema about this and often taunts Prema about her Maayka as well.
AS: Sumer
He is not in the good books of Badri as he does not do any business work properly. Sumer is jealous of Amber as he is perfect in everything he does and everyone praises Amber a lot.. he feels that even his wife has a better bonding with Amber as they laugh together, something which she does not do in front of him. He thinks he is given petty jobs and all important jobs are given to Amber. He has become a pessimist. He also thinks its better to bear loses than listen to a woman's advice and so he never takes Prema's advice for anything. He has a male ego in him. He does not like Prema laughing and smiling in front of anyone as he himself has so many complaints with life and cannot laugh and smile himself.
AS: Dhaani
She is a young, beautiful, nave, shy village girl'the apple of her mother's eye and her world revolves around her mother. She is pure'gentle'always ready to help everyone at the cost of her own work also. She is a simple sober girl, who unlike other younge girls of hr age doesn't like dressing up too much. Her mother always tells her to dress up just a bit, but Dhaani doesn't listen to her. Her natural beauty is such that it does not leave any need for any artificial make up. Amber likes her simplicity. She is very proficient at all household work and is very happy with her mother in their small house. She does not dream of big houses or the other luxuries of life. She helps her mother in decorating hand-made dolls'which they sell in weekly shaniwari haat' their main source of livelihood'Dhaani is scared of darkness and cannot sleep alone. She is scared of horses'she has a habit of drinking milk in the morning, as they have a cow in their house. She is allergenic to rose and rose itara whereas Amber is very fond of these' After her mother's death she prays to her mother's baal gopal everyday and wherever se goes she takes the bal gopal with her.
He is man of pride, shaan shoukat, a rich man'whose words are the last dictate. He believes in jaat-paat, a lot'A shrewd businessman he does not hesitate in doing anything for profit in his business even if it emans a loss to someone else. People of the society respect him a lot and also look upto him in fear. His decision is the last decision for the villagers and no one can protest against it. He believes that women have been made so that they can take care of the men. According to him women should only speak in the matters of kitchen and nowhere else. He takes al the decisions of the house. He has this habit of piping hooka. He is very fond of his family'specially Amber'whom he considers his luck'his prosperity
AS: Mayi
She is working in this house from decades and is more like a family member than a servant'all the kids of the house were born in front of her. She is very fond of Amber, they share a relationship of takraar where they keep pulling each others leg, still caring for one another. She is a confidant, and the main support of our Hero can also call her a good friend. She is from uchha kul'she keeps on having these sweet bickering with Taiji. she has a back story'She was married to Brahmin nut because she could not bear him a child, he left her.and he got remarried. Since then she ahs been staying at Badri;s house serving them. She has the pain of never being able to become a mother in her ehart. She still keeps a karwachauth fast for her husband on the sly. But does not even speak to him whenever their confrontation happens. Her husband has 4 kids from his second wife, who does not take care of them. Bui helps them whenever they need money for school fees or anything. She is concerned about her huisband's family but does not show that from outside. She gives all her love to the kids in Badri's house.
AS: Madhu
Amber's younger sister. She is Taiji's daughter and is18 yrs old. Sweet innocent girl. She loves her family. She loves watching TV and dancing and loves to dance at all the functions at her relatives' house. Right from childhood she has seen one man as her husband and loves him a lot, to the extent that she even keeps fasts when he ahs exams. She has grown up seeing the reeti riwaaz of her family and also believes in them herself. She also believes that a woman's heaven is in her husband's feet. She has a very good bond with her Amber, more than her real brother Sumer. After marriage she does not tell any thing about her Sasural in her maayka. She has an interest in household work, learning new recepies etc. she loves dressing up and looking at herself in the mirror. A very simple girl whose worl is made of the dreams with the boy who has been chosen for her. Her aim is that once she goes to her sasural, she takes care of everyone in such a way that there are no complaints.
AS: Uma
She is homely, loving, caring, pious lady and is fond of daan-dakshina which she does on the sly. People say Badrinarayan has flourished because of her good actions'but Badrinarayan dos not listen much to her, she is very meekin front of him but she has no grudges. She is a pativrata wife, a loving mother and she cooks very well'she is also called Annapurna. At one point of time she feels that no one needs her in the house as Taiji takes all the important decisions, the kids are taken care of by Bui and so she feels neglected. Once Dhaani comes into the house, she gets close to her and her lost confidence also comes back. She shares a special silent bond with Taiji's son Sumer. Whenever Badri or Tai scold Sumer he goes to Uma and shares his feelings with her.
