Mumbai, August 15 - Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-fronted horror-comedy Stree 2 has stormed the box office and put all the projections in the backburners to score one of the biggest openings of all time and easily the biggest for a movie released on Independence Day (August 15).

According to the early estimates, Maddock Films' production is expected to score in the range of 45-47 crores net which is among the top 10 starts in Hindi ever. It just went overdrive with houseful boards everywhere, carrying exceptional occupancies.

It is quite remarkable that a film which was expected to open in the range of 25 crores net max a few weeks back and was up against two other big Bollywood movies, exceeded those expectations to put up these numbers which is easily the biggest ever for a non-superstar title.

The opening of Stree 2 is almost double that of the previous biggest starters, Kalki 2898 AD and Fighter which opened to 22.50 crores net each in 2024. Earlier, the movie minted approximately 8+ crores net in the previews, making it 53+ crores net on opening day.

The initial word of mouth seems highly positive and with huge demand across all centres, Stree 2 is looking to score 160+ crores net in its 5-day opening weekend.

According to the website, Stree 2 had some special opening premieres on Wednesday, during which the film earned ₹8 crore. On its opening day, the film made ₹46 crore approximately, taking the total to an estimated ₹54.25 crore. This makes it the biggest opening day grosser of 2024, beating Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi) and Fighter.

Stree 2 Sees Extraordinary First Day

Stree 2 as seen an extraordinary first day as it collects around 45 crore nett and collections and could even go a little higher as mass circuits are huge making it the seventh highest opening ever seen for a Hindi film and sixth highest ever if we take out KGF 2 and only count original films. Basically a 53 crore nett plus total should be there including paid previews.

It is a huge national holiday but it is competing with the huge budget releases with huge stars and that is the victory of the film and the franchise simply goes to another level with this initial. No doubt the initial was expected to be big but not this big.

The plus is that the film has done well across the country there will be some underperformance in parts that hardly matters. A circuit like Gujarat has smashed all films this year by huge margins this year and without a big mass star and a circuit which is struggling big time to collect. for a long time. Suddenly with the right film it comes alive. This was much needed for this circuit as its so important for the Hindi film box office and generally for the industry a number like this was the need of the hour. The circuits numbers in Hindi belts will be interesting in the morning as some could be beating likes of Animal, Jawan nd Pathaan.

The disappointment is the other two films Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein have struggle dto do with the latter being around 6 crore nett and the former around 4.50 crore nett mainly because being a holiday Vedaa is stronger in mass pockets while Khel Khel Mein mainly collected in the big multiplexes.. But these numbers are dull for a big holiday and its basically about which film comes out on top rather than success.
