Of all the things I think Vanraj is just fine. Doing what he is supposed to do. Even if he plays victim so what? Even if he twists and turn the circumstances in his favor, so what? 
In this whole Dimpy - T2 thing, the reason he started investigating T2 and tried to keep DimTu away was because of his own reasons to not let go of the hold over Dimpy and rights over Ansh. By the end he becomes a good father who wants to save Dimpy from getting married into a criminal family. 
But that's the sign of a manipulative person. He is a very very good antagonist IMO. He turns every situation in his favor.
Writing a negative character who is physically abusive is easy. But someone who is can play mind games is hard to catch.
We must ask what the so-called positive characters did to counter him, except tu tu main main, of course. Vanraj is earnestly doing his duty.
