They did portray the bank manager as an evil guy without an iota of sympathy towards a man who was clearly helpless and just wanted to buy some time too.

Of course that was no reason to blow his brains out in front of his little son and damn him for life! But the kid clearly did see what happened leading up to his dad's death and held the bank manager responsible.

But all of that is still irrelevant cuz that entire sob story killed the essence of the movie for me.

I think it was good that they gave a background to Aamir's character. Even a villain needs motivation for his actions. It gives a layer to his character.

John in Dhoom 1 was also robbing banks and he just did it for money. Giving Aamir's character another reason to rob was to make Dhoom 3 not look like a repetition of Dhoom 1.

It was a plus point for this film unlike Dhoom 2, where Mr A's motivation was never shown. He wasn't even stealing money, but ancient artifacts which are not easy to sell. It was never explained what he did with the loot.

He ended up becoming a chef in a restaurant. Like what was the use of stealing those priceless items?๐Ÿ˜†

Dhoom 2 was a more fun and entertaining film than Dhoom 3 anyday. But it's also dumbest among all three in the franchise.

Mr. A was doing it just for the fun of it all.. the rush and putting his intelligence to use (I guess, and in return making fun of the 'police') that is why he stole antiques and rare artifacts. Dhoom 3 tried to add the 70s "baap ka badla" masala but failed miserably... which in a way now makes D1 and D2 stand out as just entertaining and fun movies. The settling down part, the restaurant on some island, also kinda shows he never did it for the money or a personal vendetta, LOL

You're really gonna make me defend Dhoom 2's honor now, aren't you? ๐Ÿ˜† I don't think it was dumb by any means. One can easily argue that they owned the restaurant to layer all the dirty money he had stashed somewhere. Remember, he never gave them back cuz he played dead. People have been known to retire from all kinds of high profile jobs minting millions to pursue simpler things in life, so it's not that far fetched of him to give it all up for a drama free life with his love either, esp if he wasn't willing to jeopardize what he had with her for anything else in the world.

They left A's motivation up to our imagination and I'm more than okay with it. That let the movie focus on the good stuff, which is the high octane drama onscreen. Not everything has to be spoonfed either, and on the bright side, they can always come up with a movie to show us what happened in A's life preceding Dhoom 2. I know for a fact I'd love to watch that. ๐Ÿ˜†

Coming back to Dhoom 3, Aamir was a pathetic and misguided character. The sob story was utter trash from beginning to end, the only good parts were Jackie and the twins. I'd happily watch a movie centered on those three running a circus with a good plot but it didn't figure anywhere in Dhoom 3! It took up half the movie, leaving the second half underwhelming. Kat had nothing to do in it except dance to songs either and that was equally weird. For motive, they could have picked anything from a vigilante out to set things straight with unethical banks or just someone who hates capitalism and robs big corporations to make a statement. It didn't have to drag for so long or be so melodramatic.
