Sonam’s character inspired by Mandira Bedi?

Actress Sonam Kapoor and actor Dulquer Salmaan-starrer The Zoya Factor has been in the news recently owing to a story where luck proves to be the greatest factor. It is based on the eponymous book by Anuja Chauhan. On the film front, the latest rumour circulating is whether the film is inspired from the life of actress and presenter Mandira Bedi.

As per a source, the book is inspired by the life of a woman who gained massive traction after the 2003 World Cup. Mandira, who was originally an actor, started her stint as a presenter for the Indian Cricket team in 2003 and it was her compering and the luck that followed for the team, which is still remembered.

The source said, “Mandira Bedi’s association with the cricket team as their compere somehow had proven to be lucky for the cricket team. Whenever the team’s day started with a greeting from Mandira, they won. And therefore, it was believed that she is indeed the lucky mascot for our cricket team. In the earlier days of reading sessions between the author (Anuja), director and the actors, they often discussed how the book is hugely inspired from her life and Sonam hence drew references from the same.”

Zoya Factor is about a Rajput girl named Zoya Singh Solanki (played by Sonam Kapoor) who meets the Indian Cricket Team through her job as an executive in an advertising agency and ends up becoming a lucky charm for the team in the 2010 Cricket World Cup.
