Yeah I remember that he falls for her during the Nimbooda dance which again proves the point that it was all superficial up until they got married. He is a guy after all and he was enchanted by her beauty, confidence and talent. That was the only time he saw her I think and then they just got married so yeah he didn't get the opportunity to actually get to  know her.

@Bold I think they should've shown that Sameer waited for her until he got old or even do a 10 yrs later thing but then people wouldn't have been satisfied with the ending I guess. If Sameer had waited for her for so long then why shouldn't she have chosen him?

I agree with amateur part and I think Sameer was deliberately shown like that in contrast to the extremely mature Vanraj, which is what Nandini elaborates on in the end. Like I said, Sameer and Nandini were young, it was their first love so they did do some pretty amateur and stupid things. Nandini was so bratty and bitchy in Italy lol that I felt like slapping her. 😂

I think Nandini wasn't so upset with Sameer after he left because it was her first love and she kind of got obsessed with that feeling and Sameer. It does happen a lot with first loves, you're totally blinded.

@bold He falls in love with her during the nimbooda dance. He does say at some point it was her confidence and talents as well. She was the complete opposite of him and opposites attract. He was a shy guy.

It is based on a true story of someone famous artist's female protege. The real-life woman was also very beautiful, talented and intelligent. That was who Nandini was aspired from. She had a very passionate romance with one of her master's students. It was full of nok jhoks and romance. While that not so passionate love of her husband who loved her selflessly to the end of his life. Her husband also took her to see that man much later in life. He had grown old by then and was still single. So clearly he loved her a lot too. But it just didn't come across with Sameer for someone reason. His behavior, love, and antics all were very amateurish. Someone else talked about it in a previous thread about the same exact topic. LOL! ðŸ˜†

I am not a fan of Eklavya's character from Mahabharata, he was pretty dumb not to reason for the out-of-proportion gurudakshina. And the same applies for Sameer.

She chose whom she wanted to. Who are we to say.

Yeah, the real-life story is in a book "Na Hanyate"  written by Maitreyi Devi. It is her story and that of a western student named Mircea Eliade. I just researched it. She was the protegee of Rabindranath Tagore. Her father was a very powerful academic in Kolkatta. She fell in love with his French student my bad. And he did get married eventually. Don't know how I managed to mix that up.

When I was a child and watched it at first, I felt really bad for Sameer but I really liked Vanraj as how he selflessly loved Ash even though she didn’t love him. So I really liked the ending even though I did felt bad for Sameer as it wasn’t his fault. Also, I used to have strong believe on husband-wife relationship but more importantly that whatever parents choose for you is better than what the child chooses as they know better. But now that I am an adult and actually see the movie for what it is, Nandini’s father was horrible. She should’ve chosen Sameer as she was forced to marry Vanraj and loved him for how he was with her. But She wasn’t actually in love with him nor she loved him that way because till the end she didn’t. She felt bad leaving him after all he did for her just as I felt really bad for Vanraj at the time. And SLB made them ended together due to how the culture is in India where they would’ve not accepted a wife leaving husband like that during those years. I still have high regard for marriage but not when someone’s forced like that and love the husband now just because someone feels guilty. She should’ve chosen Sameer as she actually did love him but due to the guilt and appreciation for Vanraj, she left Sameer and chose Vanraj at last minute.

@bold I completely agree. Even as a child when I had watched it I had felt very bad when Nandini chose Vanraj over Sameer. It's quite clear that she loved Sameer only and not even in a single scene did she show that kind of love and attraction for Vanraj. The ending seemed very forced.

Yeah. Out of all the films he roasted vivah was the only one I genuinely didn't realize was problematic prior to watching the video.

I miss pretentious movies reviews though. They were even more hillarious
