Zoya stared, steely eyed at Adi. Once again he had managed to ruin all her hard work in seconds, yet again, he got away with it and she got the blame.
He shook his shoulders, laughing loudly as he did, "See, me, I am untouchable"
Of course, he meant it in the way of no one being able to harm him anymore after all the pain he had already endured, he was numb.
Yet, he couldn't help but crave for human contact, to maybe just once, have someone comfort him and tell him he was going to be okay, because right now he didn't believe he would.
He bit back the thought, looking up at Zoya with her angry glare, turned up chin and tightly clenched fists.
All this anger, all for him, oh how he enjoyed it, yearned for it infact.
It made him feel alive.
Zoya felt the little energy she had left falling away and she collapsed weakly into the chair.
"Please, enough, I can't take anymore, this hate in your eyes, I get it, more so than you think, but I am tired, so tired" she put her hands up, as if in silent prayer, then dropped them onto her lap
His chest was tight, he still wasn't sure why every tear from her eyes, was like a knife to his heart.
He had no words, he wasn't going to apologise, that wasn't his style.
Oh, but he wanted to.
He wanted to so badly, that if he didn't, he was sure his heart would explode.
She looked up, her eyes watery, sadness radiating from her.
Almost welcoming to him, someone who could understand his pain, share it with him
"I am sorry"
She looked up, astounded, disbelief evident in both their eyes.
Then her hand was on his, "Me to"
They werent sure how the air had magically settled.
Or how the apologies had even come out in the first place
But they were sorry.
For the pain.
For the loss.
For the current situation.
He didnt realise when he kneeled before her, grasping her hands, holding on like his life depended on it and maybe it did?
Maybe it all boiled down to this moment.
"Relax, main hoon na"
Just with those four words, her heart slowed, her breathing calmed.
The tears still came, her heart still hurt.
She gasped at the lone tear that made its way down his cheek.
His heart hurt to.
"Relax" she repeated "Main hoon na"
And just like that, they both started to feel a bit more human.
"I have never met anyone like you" she whispered, she couldnt understand the kind of man he was or what his goals were.
"And you never will"
She never would met a man as hurt and as angry as him.
She agreed.
She never would meet a man as kind and as complex as him.
All these lonely days and nights.
The tears they cried alone.
The pain that swallowed them whole, only to spit them back out like they were nothing.
Finally, they both had someone to share it with.
"I" she spoke
"I" he spoke
They chuckled together
"I miss him"
"I miss her"
Then her shoulders were shaking, the sobs taking over her whole body, and all he could do was hold her.
"Hamari adhuri kahaani" he whispered, "It may never be complete, but maybe we can dream"
Then he led, on the floor, closing his eyes.
"Adi"
"Hmm"
"Will we ever get through this" she needed him to tell her they would.
She needed reason to fight, needed something to stay alive for.
Because whats the point of life if all you can do is exist not live?
"I dont know" he paused "But, we have to, right, we have to because if we dont, then"
"Then we end up like them" she finished his sentence, full of absolute resolution
And they couldn't end up like them. They had to be stronger, they had to stay alive.
But it was more than difficult.
It was all consuming.
It was never ending effort, strength that could not die.
Because, if it did, then they would break.
And maybe they were already broken, trying to put their broken shards back together and then getting cut by the pieces, bleeding out slowly and the pain was so excruciating it left little to hold onto.
But then as they turned their heads, their eyes meeting.
Their hands outstretched, holding hands to keep above the waves that was to close to drowning them.
Together, they would stay afloat.
Together, they would stay alive.
They both drifted off, dreaming of their significant others and of the other individual in the room with them.
Because as long as they had eachother, they were never truly alone.
Their incomplete story would eventually be complete
And all the broken pieces would mend in the only way they knew how
By comfort, familiarity, understanding and beyond all- love.
That's what this moment was, the ever-changing moment to turn their life upside down.
It was the start of their story, their story that would be completed.
