I feel that his approval and opinion was very important for her from almost the very beginning..she started basking in the care and attention showered by him and was very affected by his mood swings (her feeling let down when he greets her casually after the rainy night, her remarking to her colleague after being ignored by Asfi...Asfi on his part had totally exposed his yearning for her company when dropping her and had to hold back)...he was a very important and dominant part of her life in this new place..when she heard from Geiti about their back story, it helped her understand him better (I thought that was done very subtly)..and finally when Fariyal came in she could no longer ignore the realization that not only was he very imp in her life but she was also extremely disturbed by the thought of him with someone else...

Well this is my interpretation atleast...
