Rachna Parulekar enters Saat Phere

Dusky beauty Rachna Parulekar will soon be making her debut on Saat Phere as Saloni's daughter Sawree. Rachna initially auditioned for the role of Sugna of Balika Vadhu, but was told to wait for a more appropriate role and was then offered this. We caught up with the newcomer who told us more about herself and her part on the serial.

How did you bag the role?
I auditioned for the character of Sugna of Balika Vadhu first. They called me and told me that they liked my face and would keep me in mind and tell me when they had the right role. They also told me not to sign anything for sometime. Then, when they were searching for this character of Sawree, they called me. I auditioned again and within 10 days they told me that I had been selected for the role.

Tell us about your background.
I am a trained Kathak dancer. I have been taught by Sri. Uma Dogra and I have a degree in Kathak from Nalanda University, through a scholarship. I have just given my Standard 12 exams from Mithibai College in the Arts stream. After this, I am planning to do my graduation in Mass Communication. My mother was an airhostess and she always wanted me to become an actress. It was her who encouraged me to take up dancing. My father has helped me a lot with my Hindi vocabulary. My brother comes to drop me to the sets. So they have all been very supportive. They visit my set and help me learn my lines; they are very happy for me.

What is your character all about?
She is a very simple character; she is like Saloni from Saat Phere. She takes care of her sister Shweta and is ready to make any compromise for her happiness. This is because she has promised her mother never to hurt Shweta. I have watched Rajeshreeji (Thakur), she is amazing with her expressions. I know people have many expectations from me so I will try my level best to live up to them.

Are you getting along with your fellow cast members?
We all are mostly new here. Pooja, Aditya, Karan, Poonam, Raunak and I are all newcomers and it has been fun shooting for them. Even the senior actors are very sweet. They've taught me how to do emotional scenes, how to pay attention to body language and how to remember my lines. I was very scared at my first shot. I was constantly swallowing hard but it came out well.

Rachna's look is going to be dark on the show and to portray this, she will be wearing a lot of kajal, mascara and anarkali dresses. Her entry will take place tonight (April 21) but unfortunately, she'll not be able to watch it as she's going to be busy shooting.

Amrapali Dubey thrilled to be Saat Phere's new lead

Young Amrapali Dubey never dreamed when she visited the sets of Saat Phere years ago, that she would go on to star in the serial's lead role. But that's exactly what happened to Amrapali, who tagged along with a neighbour years before to the sets and is now playing Shweta on the show.

SHE says, "I have a fear of staying alone and one day, my parents had to go out of town and my elder sister went to college. There was no one in the house so my mother asked my neighbour to take care of me. She was a junior artist and had to rush for a shoot. I told her to take me along with her. We went on the sets and I realised that it was Saat Phere's sets. Now, after so many years, I am back on the sets playing a lead role on the show!"
Amrapali also auditioned for Balika Vadhu before she bagged the Saat Phere role. She says, "I auditioned for Gehna's role but it did not work out. I had just given my Standard 12 exams from Bhavans College in Andheri and was chilling with my friends when I got called for auditions. I screen tested twice and got selected for the role. My sister used to work in the production house and she helped me get into acting."

The actress has had no formal training, yet was determined to become a star. Her parents too are very supportive and escort her to or pick her up from her late shoots. She says, "My father believes that I should try to do as many things as possible in my life. My mother is very sentimental; she thinks that I should have the chances that she never had while growing up. So they all are very supportive."

Dubey contributes Saat Phere's long and successful run to actress Rajshree Thakur. She says, "I have watched the show for a while and I think that Rajshree is a goddess. If she wasn't on the serial, we wouldn't have got this opportunity to act now. Hats off to her."

Playing the pampered Shweta on the show, Amrapali says that the other cast and crew make sure she feels at home one the sets. "My director is a sweetheart. He explains every scene to me. Further, Ali (Merchant) is also very helpful and keeps encouraging me to do better. Rachna, who is playing my sister, is very naughty and Aman is also very nice. Our entire day goes by so quickly," she says.

However, the actress is missing the normalcy she once took for granted in her life. "It's nice because I have been getting good feedback for my role but I do miss my friends. They all are out of town right now, enjoying their holidays. I would have been doing the same if it wasn't for the show. I miss my college days and bunking lectures. Now, I don't know whether I can attend regular college," says Amrapali.

Though she is adamant on finishing her education, saying, "I think I will take up a diploma course in law. If my work permits, I will also attend college and then take up law post my graduation. I want to complete my education."

Saat Phere comes to an end

Vandana Shukla/Hill Road Media

Saat Phere, once Zee's most popular show, will come to an end this month.

"All good things must come to an end," the show's producer Sunjoy Wadhwa said, "We have given it four good years. The last episode will air on May 22."

The show began in 2005 and took a leap last month. In that, protagonist Saloni's kids grew up and she was sent to jail, on the accusation that she had killed her sister-in-law, Urvashi."

The serial rotated around the story of Saloni (played by Rajshri Thakur) a dark complexioned girl, and her journey through life. The show is likely to end happily with Saloni coming out of jail.

Amrapali Dubey (who plays Saloni's daughter Shweta) said: "I will miss the sets and its atmosphere. We haven't had any shots yet with Rajshri. I hope that this changes soon. It will happen when her character gets out of jail."

Saat Phere's exit marks that end of yet another saas-bahu serial. We take a look back at the Top 5 moments of the show.

Nahar suffers from terminal illness
A major shocker on the show came in the form of Nahar suffering from a terminal illness. When he realises that his death is near, thoughtful Nahar tries to bring his wife Saloni and his doctor Mihir Mishra closer together. He thinks that, if Saloni gets married to Mihir, she'll be able to cope with his death better. And Nahar does finally die but it's not due to illness, it's because Urvashi kills him. His look-alike Amrit later emerges on the show.

Saat Phere takes a leap
Saat Phere recently took a generation leap. The focus of the story shifted from Saloni to her daughters Saawri and adopted daughter Shweta. Saloni's daughter Saawri (Rachna Parulkar) is now seen playing the lead while Amrapali Dubey is playing the character of Saloni's adopted daughter Shweta.

Sharad: It pains to know Saat Phere is over

Saat Phere will bid goodbye to its viewers this Friday and its lead star Sharad Kelkar, who played Nahar, talks to us about the long and fruitful journey he's had on the once hit show.

Sharad says, "It worked for me; it was a hit show and went on for three and a half years. I am sad to see it end and feel pained. I especially feel bad for the newcomers who just made their appearance on the show. They just got their big breaks and now the serial is coming to a close."
Talking about the last episode of Saat Phere, Sharad says that he will appear on the show. He adds, "They have spoken to me about the last day of the shoot but I don't know about the dates." As for the story, Kelkar is convinced that all will end well. He says, "I think Nahar and Saloni will be shown blessing their kids."

The actor says that he will miss the entire unit, from "the light persons to the spot boy. I had a great rapport with everyone. The last day we shoot is going to be very emotional for us. We decided that if we pack up before 10pm, we will have a party on the sets and order food for everyone."

Recalling the days when he was just offered Saat Phere, Sharad says, "I was very attached to the show. It has given me everything: experience, popularity, maturity, everything. I still remember, I was offered two shows: Sindoor and Saat Phere. I was ready to choose one and leave the other but Ashwini Yardi, Vivek and Perl Shahi all put their faith in me and allowed me to do both. Sanjay and Comal Wadhwa gave me this role when I was a nobody."

He also remembered the very first day he shot for the serial, saying, "My entry scene was shot quite differently. Even during my wedding sequence, I had to ride on an elephant, which no one has ever done on TV. There was so much chaos and all the kids were so excited. The entire experience was very nice. I will miss all the fights on the sets; they were never serious though. We actually played holi on the sets and celebrated many festivals according to Rajasthani culture."

As for keeping in touch, Kelkar says that he is a pro at that and doesn't plan on forgetting his friends once the show wraps up. "I am still in touch with Rajashree (Thakur), whom I used to shoot with mostly. Even the crew from Sindoor, I call all of them. Sometimes, they come over to my house as well. So I will also keep in touch with everyone here."

Before news of Saat Phere going off air reached him, the actor thought of making a comeback on the show. He says, "Purnendu used to write for the show initially. He was so sweet. I used to call him at noon and he would discuss the plot with me, even if he was sleeping. However, he left and our dialogue writer changed. Saat Phere changed the face of Zee TV. I do not know what happened for the channel to pull it down but fewer TRPs could have been the reason."

Saat Phere
has completed more than 800 episodes and the last episode of the show will be telecasted on May 22 at 9pm on Zee TV.
