  2. The URL is based on the topic name at the time it’s created, and it doesn’t change even if you edit the topic name later. If a URL does get updated, it will automatically redirect to the new link, so you won’t need to update it manually.

Thanks for the clarification. Glad to know the old links are still functional smiley10.

We’re thrilled to announce some major upgrades that will improve your experience on our site. We’re now using Cloudflare’s Business plan, bringing several benefits:

  • Faster Page Loads: We’re now serving pages from an “Edge cache,” meaning content is delivered from servers closer to you. This should make pages load faster!
  • Enhanced Security: We have upgraded our CDN service which also provides us advanced security features that helps protect our site and keep your data safe.
  • Higher Reliability: This new setup helps us reduce downtime, ensuring the site stays up even during busy times.
  • Updated Links: We’ve also migrated all old forum post links that pointed to “india-forums.com” to the latest URLs, and removed links that are no longer active, making navigation easier.

We’d love to hear your feedback! Please take a moment to browse the site and let us know if you notice faster loading times or other improvements. Your input helps us keep enhancing your experience here.

Thank you for being part of our community!

Hello Vijay

Its really going good when it comes to speed, page loads, security reliability etc etc...but there's a big issue when it comes to unlocking our threds. There's no support from moderators for our email requests to unlock our threads...Atleast in the old FF, we used to have a regular thread or forum where in members would share the links that needs to be unlocked and it would take maximum 2 days for them to respond and now there is no way at all...

Now my humble request is..PLEASE PLEASE MAKE IF a Member friendly site. please increase the time frame where our threads gets locked automatically (3 months is way too less). OR, ease restrictions...say for example, if the thread is locked, then the member who has started the thread should get permission to unlock it somehow. Why not set a option for this in the settings of the thread? I know it can be possible. OR please find a easy way out for this problem

Please adress this issue as we members( who are as well maintaining various threads) are facing a big problem in unlocking our threads..and creating a new thread with same topic doesnt solve the issue.

Thank you for your detailed feedback and suggestions, Vaidhumom. I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the improvements in speed, page loads, and security—it’s wonderful to know the upgrades are making a positive impact!

Now, regarding the thread locking system, I completely understand your concerns, especially about the challenges it creates for maintaining older threads. Let me explain why the thread-locking mechanism is in place and how similar practices are followed by many other forums:

  1. Site Performance: Locking older threads helps optimize site performance by limiting activity on dormant content, preventing unnecessary server load. This ensures the site remains responsive and fast for all users.
  2. Preventing Spam: Many forums implement thread locking to deter spammers from bumping inactive threads. It’s a common problem in online communities, and locking threads helps keep the forum clean and secure.
  3. Promoting Current Engagement: Locked threads encourage users to create new discussions instead of resurrecting outdated topics. This helps keep conversations fresh and relevant.

Examples from Other Forums:

  • Reddit: Subreddits often use auto-locking bots to close threads after a certain period of inactivity, usually between 1-6 months depending on the community.
  • Stack Overflow: Threads automatically become read-only if they’re inactive for an extended period, particularly when the topic is no longer relevant.
  • vBulletin Forums: Many communities running on vBulletin or phpBB software also auto-lock threads after a few months, balancing active discussions with site management.

These practices are widely adopted to maintain a balance between preserving old content and fostering active, current discussions.

Addressing Your Suggestions

I understand your frustration, especially for threads like fan fictions or resource topics that require ongoing updates. Here are some potential steps we can explore:

  1. Dedicated Unlock Requests: Reintroducing a centralized thread for users to request unlocks, with a committed response timeframe, could address the inconvenience. This was a feature in the past, and we can revisit it.
  2. Member Unlock Option: Allowing thread creators to unlock their own threads is technically possible, but it would require careful development to ensure it doesn’t introduce spam or performance issues.
  3. Extended Lock Periods: For specific sections like Fan Fictions or reference threads, we could consider increasing the lock period from three months to a longer timeframe.

We’ll review these suggestions internally to assess their feasibility.

Thank you again for raising this issue and for your contributions to the community. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us make the site more user-friendly while maintaining its performance and security.

Hello Vijay,

Greetings!

To begin with, Thank you for your quick reply and for being equally concerned. I really appreciate that.

You guessed it right. Its worst frustrating factor for we FF writers. To further comment, The issue is not that the threads are getting locked. You have valid reasons to do so. The major issue is the thread starters face problems in unlocking it again..and I am amused that thread starters dont have authority to lock/unlock their own threads. I would say its really unfair. moreover, we have to send requests after requests to Admin/moderators and there is so much delay in getting our requests done. Anyways, Glad that your team is taking this issue into consideration and will do the needful

Now, I have further comments on these points. Please check and further comment. Eagerly waiting for the day when this issue gets sorted out.

· Dedicated Unlock Requests:Reintroducing a centralized thread for users to request unlocks, with acommitted response timeframe, could address the inconvenience. This was afeature in the past, and we can revisit it. Please bring it back. its needed especially when we thread starters dont have any authority to lock/unlock our own threads.

· MemberUnlock Option: Allowing thread creators to unlock their own threads is technicallypossible, but it would require careful development to ensure it doesn’tintroduce spam or performance issues. As said, This would be the best solution. Also, I am sure that your admin / moderators will be relaxed when this issue shall be handled by the thread starters. Coming to spamming, I have noticed that your development team has set some inbuilt protocalls to take immediate action when there is a spamming happening...

· Extended Lock Periods: For specificsections like Fan Fictions or reference threads, we could consider increasingthe lock period from three months to a longer timeframe. This would help but not a permanent solution to this problem.

I have posted my suggestions before but maybe I got lost in clutter or maybe my Langauge was unappealing. So linking it again because copy paste long post isn't allowed.

Talking about the context of this post, there is a marked improvement in quality. I am loving the speed currently.

I completely agree with you. As the creators and owners of the threads, it would be ideal if we were granted more control over them. Allowing thread creators to unlock their own threads when needed, as well as providing the option to delete them entirely if desired, would offer greater flexibility and ownership. This would enhance the user experience and give us more autonomy in managing the content we've posted. I hope the forum administration considers these requests for future updates.

Also, I want to sincerely thank you for the recent updates to the PM home ... the new folder feature is fantastic! It’s a great step towards better organization, and it makes managing messages so much easier. I’m sure many of us appreciate the extra effort to improve the user experience.

That said, I have a small requestt .... would it be possible to add a “Delete PM” option that removes the message not only from the sender’s inbox, but also from the receiver’s? It would be incredibly helpful, especially for those messages we might regret sending .... you know, the ones that could use a little “disappearing act.” It would certainly help in keeping our inboxes tidy and free from any accidental or forgotten conversations.

Thanks again for your continued efforts to improve the site, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this suggestion.

Also, some forums have only one moderator .. for eg. in the Jodha Akbar forum where I'm an active member, we currently have just one moderator. While I understand the forum isn’t extremely active, it is still active enough to benefit from some additional support. I completely understand that moderators have their own commitments and personal lives, which is why it might be helpful to have a second person...such as a Viewbie or another moderator...who can step in when needed. This way, if any issues arise, members would have another point of contact. I hope the dev team considers this request, as it would provide more support and ensure smoother management of the forum

P.S. - I was just waving the 'unlock thread' flag .... nothing against the mods, they’re like the superheroes of the forum! 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️smiley31

Best Wishes,

Anushka
