Holding On
As Arnav held onto Khushi and slept, he felt her move.
His eyes fluttered open and saw that she had turned towards him and her head was buried in his chest.
He had missed the feeling of knowing that she felt protected with him….
Few moments later, he felt his shirt get wet. He moved a little away to catch a glimpse of her face and saw that her face was red and tears streaked down from under her closed eyes.
She was crying in her sleep!
He felt his own eyes turn wet and tears trickled down his cheeks and into her hair.
Khushi felt her hair getting wet and her eyes fluttered open. She realized she was holding onto Arnavji first, and then realized that he was crying.
With the state of mind she was in, she came to the wrong conclusion; she must have snuggled up to him in her sleep out of habit, and he hadn't felt too happy about it.
Struggling to keep down her sob, she pushed him away and kept her head on her own pillow and faced away from him, muttering a vague "Sorry…"
To say Arnav was shocked would be an understatement. Why had she backed away suddenly? Why did she apologize?
"Khushi?" he whispered brokenly.
"Arnavji, I'm sleepy…" she murmured.
Arnav let it go, and contemplated for the rest of the night on how to deal with this problem. She was slipping away from him, and he would leave no stone unturned to hold on to her.

When Arnav awoke the next day, Khushi was already awake and was on her way downstairs. Before he could call to her, she walked away and the way her anklets tinkled quickly, he realized she had tried to go away quickly.
This would be a long day… He thought with a sigh, but determined that by the end of the day, he would make sure that there was no distance between them.
*
That night, as Khushi set the room before she could sleep, Arnav walked into the room silently and closed the door behind him softly.
She froze when she felt him walk inside.
"Khushi…" he called softly.
She took a moment to look at him, taking time to compose herself. She had fake smile on her face. "Yes?"
"W-We need to talk…" he plead.
Her smile faded. She dropped to the bed. "I know…" she whispered.
She took a deep breath, and before he could say anything she started off. "Well, I agree to whatever you are going to say. Our marriage is not really working out… Maybe we should divorce. I mean, who am I to meddle in your life? Your wish… I mean it's your life, your heart! So when do we-"
She kept talking, not noticing how Arnav's eyes were growing wider and his face was turning red. Finally, when she said that she'd make sure he never sees her again, he lost it. "KHUSHI, SHUT UP!" he roared.
Khushi fell silent immediately, tears filling her eyes.
He took her by her shoulders and shook her. "Do you even KNOW what your saying?! How DARE you suggest that we get separated! After all that we have been through, you are ready to break our relationship so easily!"
Not getting what he was saying, she yelled back. "I KNOW what I am saying! It IS not easy for me, but I'd do it for you! It is not ME who is ready to break this wedding it is YOU…. I understand! You grew tired of me and okay! You fell in love with someone else and-"
"Khushi, STOP! PLEASE! What are you saying! Who even gave you that idea! How could you even think for a minute that I will survive without you!" he said, his voice cracking.
"But Arnavji-"
"Khushi, I love you! Nothing is ever going to change that! Not even death!" he whispered into her ears as he took her into a hug.
She seemed to freeze in his arms, as she processed what he said… Slowly, she hugged him back, realizing that nothing had slipped away… She was holding on, and holding tight…
