"Where is he?" Riya thought angrily. She looked at the clock and saw it was way past midnight. She kept glancing towards the clock every few seconds before finally deciding to try his cell one last time. She dialed his number angrily, and waited for him to pick up his phone. "I am sorry I am unable to pick up your call at the moment. Please leave a brief message and I will get back to you as soon as I can," the machine said. Riya finally had enough and she left him an angry message, "Arjun, I swear if you do not call me back in the next 30 minutes, I am going to'' I don't know what, but I will do something." After ending the call, she waited another 40 minutes but finally had enough. "I can't believe he forgot my birthday. He left early in the morning without wishing me, and still hasn't returned," she thought sadly. With tears in her eyes she got up and made her way towards their bedroom. She quickly changed into her pajamas, and laid down on the bed. No matter how hard she tried, she could not sleep. Her mind kept going back to the days when they first got married. They were always so happy. He always wanted to spend time with her, and now he hardly has time. All he thinks about now is work, work, and more work. He is hardly home now-a-days. It's true they work together, but at work he is her boss so they can't possible spend time together. She finally forced herself to stop thinking about all the things, and go to sleep. After crying for eternity, she fell asleep.
While on the other hand, Arjun finally finished all his work for the day. He rubbed his face with his hands, and looked up to realize it was three in the morning. He checked his phone to see 50 miss calls from his wife, Riya. "Arjun, tu toh gaya," he thought to himself. As he was about to leave, he saw Rathore.
"Arjun, what are you still doing here? Shouldn't you be home?" Rathore asked. Rathore was shocked to see him still here.
"Rathore, I was just about to leave," Arjun replied tiredly.
"Arjun, are you telling me you haven't gone home at all today? Tumhe yaad bhi hai ke aaj kaunsa din hai?" Rathore asked angrily.
"Aaj? Aaj kya hai, Rathore?" Arjun asked confused as hell.
"Aaj tumhari WIFE ka BIRTHDAY hai. Yeh kaise bhul sakte ho tum?" Arjun's eyes went as wide as a saucer upon hearing Rathore.
"Shit''." he cursed while running out of the office. He drove like a maniac and reached their house in 10 minutes which, by the way, usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
He opened the main door and stepped inside the house. He looked around to see if Riya was still awake, but unfortunately she wasn't. He looked around the room again and saw the cake on the table in the living room. He opened the lid and saw it was from Rathore, Shree, and Chotu. He also saw a small piece missing from the side of the cake and understood that she cut the cake and wished herself. He cursed himself mentally and made his way to their bedroom. Arjun saw Riya sleeping, hugging a pillow close to her. He sat down next to her and saw dried tear streaks on her cheeks. He felt really guilty and his eyes filled with tears. "I am sorry, really sorry," he said while kissing her forehead. He removed his shoes, and slept behind her, hugging her. He apologized one more time and fell asleep.
Riya woke up the next morning feeling a heavy weight on her. She opened her eyes and saw Arjun sleeping like a baby while hugging her. She smiled at the sight, but stopped after remembering yesterday's incident. She tried to push him off of her which woke him up from his slumber. He saw her struggling, and usually she is gentle so she doesn't wake him up. Today, however, she was being rough and did not care is he woke up or not.
"Riya, I am extremely sorry'." he started but got interrupted by her.
"Arjun, please uthiye! Muhje bahot kaam hai."
"Riya, I know you are angry and you have every right to be angry. I mean how could I forget my Jaan's birthday," he said with tears in his eyes. Riya felt herself melting at the sight of his tears. She shook her head to push those thought out of her, and finally managed to push him off. She hurriedly gathered her clothes and ran into the bathroom to freshen up.
Arjun finally realized how much he has hurt her. He felt like crying just thinking about how much pain his Jaan might be in. He got an amazing idea that he knew would work and cheer her up. The first thing he did was call Rathore and informed him that he and Riya will not be coming to work today. Next, he went to her garden and gathered her favorite flowers, Red Orchids. He ran back to the room and wrote "Sorry" on the bed with the flower petals. He lit her favorite scented candles and placed them around the room, and cooked her favorite breakfast.
Riya finally came out of the bathroom after 40 minutes or so. She was totally shocked to see the room, and to see Arjun kneeling by the bed holding his ears. She felt tears come to her eyes. She walked to where he was kneeling and pulled his hands away from his ears. Arjun's eyes also filled up with tears and he got up from his kneeling position and pulled her in the biggest bear hug ever.
"I am so sorry Riya, I know I haven't been spending time with you and I promise that will change from today, but for me to forget your birthday was totally unacceptable. Please forgive me."
"Arjun, mein aapse gussa isliye hoon ke aap mera birthday bhul gaye. I am not angry at you for not spending time with me, I know you are very busy now-a-days."
"Riya, Please don't say that. Jaan, you are my love, my life. You will always come first, I love you so much baby," Arjun said which was followed by kissed on her forehead, cheeks, and nose.
"I love you too," Riya replied shyly and with a tint of blush on her cheeks.
"Oye hoye' and Jaan Happy Belated Birthday." Arjun wished her which was also followed by a passionate kiss. Riya blushed like crazy after the kiss and hid her face in his chest. Arjun chuckled at her behavior and hugged her back.
