There Is No Beauty Without The Beast
Prologue
A flash.
A struggle.
A pleading cry.
A sinister laugh.
A gunshot... one... two... three...
Silence.
Red.
There was red everywhere.
On the wall.
On the ground.
On the man.
On... her.
A shadow.
Footsteps.
Hands on her.
Fear.
And then...
Nothing.

Khushi Gupta jerked awake as the nothingness surround her in the dream...
More like nightmare.
A nightmare. The same nightmare. Everynight since she was sixteen.
Nine years. It had been nine years since that night. She was twenty-five now. Everything had changed yet nothing was different.
She had become a crime investigator. She had changed states. She had changed families.
She changed.
But it was still the same nightmare. The same nothingness. The same man. The same case.
The case. It had been gone on for years before they had shut it. That man was found dead the next day.
The man that had killed her mother. Right in front of her eyes.
No one believed her then or now. She had been found that night on the other side of town. There was no way she could have seen her mother get killed and end up there on her own.
She hadn't went on her own. She was taken. She had been saved.
But no one believed her again. Who would have been around to save her? They were in the middle of no where. There was no evidence that she had been saved.
She had seen her mother died before her. Then she had woken up in a hospital days later when she came out of the nothingness.
She had been saved. Something - rather someone - had saved her. And now she knew who...
That shadow.
It was why she jerked awake from the same nightmare every night. It was why no one believed her.
Why she even existed...
