My pick of scenes 10th – 14th Oct
With all the topics on the forum about Khushi – hating Khushi, not understanding Khushi, why is Khushi not falling in love with Arnav, why doesn't she realise her feelings, why doesn't she realise his feelings – well, the answer to the last one is simple – Arnav doesn't realise his own feelings, how can she?! Besides, his mood swings are worse than a woman with PMS, so the poor girl is too busy trying to figure where exactly she stands on the hate- tolerance scale, to dream this is love is too farfetched for her to even think of it! So I thought I'd try to explore Khushi's perspective this week ... only I found that her perspective is bound up inextricably with Arnav's actions, hence again, this is a list of Arhi scenes ;) Mainly trying to explore Khushi's perspective, and the development of their relationship through the Nainital trip.
We already know Arnav's perspective ... the guy is confused!!! And when he's confused, he's not in control. And when he's not in control, he gets bad-tempered ... like most men, his reactions are pretty simple to figure out!

I liked the banter between the two – the first part where she's sitting comfortably in the pit in the ground, waiting for the timer to tick so that she can tell Arnav where she is without fear of losing her salary! And already she has loosened up enough to act a little sassy – 'If I could get out myself, do you think I'd still be sitting here?' I think the fact that Arnav didn't blow up at the sight of seeing her in the boot, agreed peacefully to take her along, didn't dump her on the roadside again, and has been remarkably patient (for him!) ... all those have started to restore her confidence, and stop being scared of him. And this gets more and more reinforced as the trip goes on.
The next dialogue which made me laugh ... after a mesmerised Arnav got over the sight of Khushi in that beautiful lehnga ... 'why do these things happen only to you?!' no anger again, just a tolerant, almost affectionate exasperation ... and her meek agreement 'I don't know!' It was such a couple-like exchange.
So Khushi now even more emboldened ... LGji actually likes her! Well, that might be going too far, but at least he's tolerating her – without blowing up at every silly thing she does. And she gets more relaxed in his presence, and starts speaking (as she always does) without thinking too much!
Arnav ... why so patient? Because he's getting used to her? Because he's started seeing beyond his own pre-conceived idea of her to see the real Khushi? Because of something which he can't quite understand ... why this girl makes him smile, makes him laugh, makes him feel light-hearted, something he hasn't felt for years ...
Like I said, he's confused.

Mainly showed Khushi completely back to her normal Khushi bakbak mode ... completely at ease now in front of Arnav. This for me was the biggest development, and important again for Arnav to see the real Khushi, the one he has been turning a blind eye to for so long, but now is finally willing to see. Flaws, bachpana, nautankipana ... the works ... and also, the sheer innocence and life in the girl. And her truthfulness ... pet mein baat tikti hi nahin hai ... one more confession ...about the petrol ...
Arnav's unaccustomed patience ... and the fact that even when he got furious about the petrol prank, it wasn't completely unthinking rage as before ... he actually remembered to give her money to get back home. So even in his anger, he has progressed ;)
And the way Khushi tried to stop him from leaving ... I think it was her caring nature again being seen by Arnav ... like she was bothered about Buaji's medicine, her father's health, informing her parents of her whereabouts, she was bothered about Arnav taking off without eating and with no means of transport ... which is why his response was more amused than annoyed ... 'you will stop me? How?' As though throwing her a challenge ... but as an equal ... no hint of social superiority or aukat here ...

The clash between ASR and Arnav was never more apparent than today ... and the Khushi-Arnav eyespeak showed the first real signs of their connection ... after Khushi's nautanki, Arnav forced to give in and stay back ... much to his annoyance ... not so much at having to stay but about losing his challenge ...
And the way their eyes met and spoke through the colourful bhangra dancers, as though they were in their own private world, where she wiggles her eyebrows delightedly at her triumph, his eyes promise retribution ... just you wait ... then he sees her dancing, and that's when he starts smiling too, just at the sight of her, her innocent laugh, the sheer joy and life in her, reminding him of what he used to be ... She peeps at him again to watch his reaction, and is so happy to see his smile that she smiles back ... and he remembers belatedly that he is ASR, he does not grin like a fool at a girl who just defeated him in a challenge ... how dare she laugh at him ... he'll show her. And the fun and lightness of being Arnav is gone as ASR comes back, more angry than ever ... at himself, for succumbing to her charm. So of course he takes it out on her ...
I loved the way this was picturised ... Arnav and Khushi peeping at each other through the shifting, moving whirling curtain of the bhangra dancers, her mischievous impish grin, his snarky smile ... for a moment, ASR was gone ... it was just Arnav vs Khushi on common turf ...
Their confrontation ... Khushi bewildered to see Arnav gone, ASR back ... why so much anger? Can't he see she did the nautanki only for him? But of course, he can't ... so he loses control yet again, and all sense and reason too ...
And now Khushi has stopped getting angry at his anger ... now only the hurt is there ... why doesn't he understand she did it only for him? So not a word of reproof or complaint ...
And Arnav has changed as well ... after the GH, it took Anjali to point out to him that he felt guilty and remorseful, after the barsi incident, he felt guilty immediately but found it so difficult to express his remorse ... and now ... he doesn't even think about it! The moment he wakes up, his first waking thought is of her and what he did, his first action is to jump out of bed and search for her, his relief when he finds her is only matched by his guilt seeing her unwell because of him ... and of course he has to make amends and look after her ... The 'sorry' came without even thinking ...
And for Khushi ... his first apology meant so much to her, but now she could see his remorse, his sorry in his eyes, and she didn't need the words ... not at all.
This episode, like the apology one, marked another milestone in their relationship ... then he needed to apologise, and she needed to hear it ... now he didn't have to say it, and she didn't need to hear it ... she understood from his care, his touch, and she accepted both without a word.

Yet another beautiful Arhi scene ... all the more remarkable because one of the two slept through it ... and even in her sleep, she said so much. No words, no dialogues, except for the soft 'I'm sorry, Khushi' spoken from the depth of his heart and the pain and remorse in his eyes ... and maybe she felt it even if she didn't hear it, the way she snuggled into his palm, and slept peacefully with his touch. Such a contrast to the GH scene, where she had such a troubled sleep even within the comfort of her home and family, and woke up because of her memory of his touch.
And the tiny morning scene was beautiful in its simplicity and subtlety ... so much unspoken ...
He – the transport strike is still on, but I've arranged a car ... unspoken you were right to stop me last night ...
She – I'll go back to Delhi on my own ... unspoken I was wrong to do what I did, I won't do it anymore, I won't interfere any more ...
Again it seemed like such a couple scene ... they didn't need too many words, they seemed to understand each other so completely here ...
No wonder Khushi was thrown completely off balance by Arnav's rage after the fight! From knowing what he was thinking, to not having a clue what was going on in his mind, from seeing him gentle, patient, caring to going completely berserk ... would have thrown any girl off keel!
And Arnav is of course confused ... why so much anger? He doesn't know ... or maybe he doesn't want to know, he doesn't want to think about it ... he wishes she would stop asking him that question, because he doesn't want to face the answer ...

This is totally Khushi's perspective ... and the reason I wrote this post at all 😛
I don't blame Khushi for being confused, honestly I don't! In the span of about twelve hours, this guy tolerated her bakbak, accepted her challenge with a hint of her own daredevilry, and openly proclaimed her his bride, then shouted at her, told her to leave without showing him her face. She then woke up to see him caring for her as tenderly as a lover, his softened mood lasted till they were ready to leave, then he flew into a towering rage and almost killed a guy ... after which his foul mood has persisted, and he refuses to tell her why! Just when she thinks things are back on even keel, there he goes again!
And this time something has changed ... there is something different between them, and his silence troubles her more than even his hurtful words do ... she tries again and again to restore some balance, to go back to where they were, to be her usual chirpy self, even though it takes an effort ... talk to me ...
He is silent.
Maybe he's angry because his meeting got cancelled.
It's good, isn't it, that it got cancelled? You're hurt, how could you work?
Silence.
Is he angry with her because she dressed in those clothes? After all, that's why the mistaken identity and the fight happened. So she says sorry for that.
No response.
We've reached Delhi!
Still no response.
And his silence is troubling her, worrying her to death ... something has happened, something has changed, it feels strange, can we go back to where we were? Talk to me, remind me of my haisiyat, scold me, it was my mistake to wear these clothes, but what could I do ... still, scold me for that if you want, I know I've done something wrong, but I don't know what it is you're angry about now ...
Just shut up!
And so disturbed is she by his strange silence, and the turbulent emotions between them, that she welcomes this ... and takes off into bakbak again in sheer relief ... yes, things are back to normal, he's autocratic Laad Governer again ... we're fine ... you're not so angry after all. You were much more angry when you beat up those goons, I was scared you would kill him!
Silence again.
Is he annoyed because she stopped him from beating up the guy? Did he think she interfered again? They were four against one ... she was worried for him ... but did he feel insulted?
So she praises his fighting skills ... you beat him up, good for you, they will never look at another girl again ...
And unknowingly, she reaches the crux of his inner conflict, what has been plaguing him ever since she asked him the first time ... WHY so much anger? Why did he lose all control when he saw her hurt even so slightly? What made him go berserk at the sight of someone touching her, hurting her ...? Why???
What would you have done if he had actually hurt me?
He doesn't even want to think about it.
Get out.
Stop asking me these questions to which I don't have any answers, stop asking me what I've been asking myself for so long ... get out, so that I don't see your face any more ... because every time I see you, the questions rise again ... why???!!! And I don't want to know the answer ... I'm afraid to face the answer ...
Arnav's struggle has well and truly begun ... and the person he will hurt most in this internal conflict will be not Khushi, but himself. Because every time he hurts her, he hurts himself even more. But he has to hurt her, he has to push her away ... he is scared ... terrified ... that he is not in control any more. So he leaves her on the road, and drives away. Running away ... but how can he run too far from himself? And he sees her face in the mirror, the silent reproach, the bewilderment ... what are you punishing me for this time?
What indeed?
And again ... NO anger from Khushi ... only hurt, bewilderment, confusion ... she thought that Laad Governer didn't dislike her any more, he even tolerated her ... what did she do to upset him? Normally she knows what prank she has pulled, what silliness she has done which annoyed him, but this time she just doesn't know!
So at the end of the week, a few conclusions ...
Arnav is confused about his feelings for Khushi.
Khushi is confused about her feelings for Arnav, but the acidity and dhak dhak has been put on the backburner for the time being because she's even more confused about his mood swings. Which are, of course, a result of his confusion. And so we go round the mulberry bush ...
And yet there is a connection between them ... the trip has made a difference to both ... but neither has figured out how. Which is why he rushes to the hospital for her without thinking ... and she rushes into his arms without thinking ...
