Faraz Ahmed's SOS

Who is he?

Ahmed Faraz is a Pakistani urdu poet. He was considered one of the greatest modern Urdu poets of the last century. Faraz is his pseudonym 'takhallus', whereas his real name is Syed Ahmad Shah. Ahmed Faraz died in Islamabad on August 25, 2008.

Hui hai shaam to aankhon me bus gaya phir tu

kahan gaya hai mere sheher ke musafir tu

Main jaanta houn ke duniya tujhe badal de gi

Main maanta houn ke aisa nahi bazaahir tu

Khwaab marte nahin
Khwaab dil hain na aankhein na saansein ke jo
Rezaa-rezaa hue to bikhar jayein ge
Jism ki maut se yeh bhi mar jayein ge

Khwaab marte nahin
Khwaab to roshni hain, navaa hain, hawa hain
Jo kaale paharon se rukte nahin
Roshni aur navaa aur hawa ka alam
Maqtalon mein pohanch kar bhi jhukte nahin

Khwaab to harf hain
Khwaab to noor hain
Khwaab to suqraat nahin
Khwaab mansoor hain

Dreams are not heart, nor eyes or breath
Which shattered, will scatter (or)
Die with the death of the body.

Dreams do not die.
But dreams are light, voice, wind,
Which cannot be stopped by mountains black,
Which do not perish in the hells of cruelty,
Ensigns of light and voice and wind,
Bow not, even in abattoirs.

But dreams are letters,
But dreams are illumination,
Dreams are Socrates
Dreams -Divine Victory!
