Chapter 5:
While Armaan was stuck in a whirl pool of getting married to a girl of his choice or the beautiful girl his mother found Ridhima was also in no less trouble. After Mrs. Malik's offer she was very confused. It wasn't that she didn't trust Mrs. Malik, but it was the fact that she still didn't want to get married. But what confused her even more was that she had heard about Mrs. Malik's son here and there and it didn't sound like he wanted to get married either. So what was up with this issue? Finally after a lot of debating with herself she went to go see Mrs. Malik and get the confusion over with.
Ridhima walked over the lawn quickly and rang the bell to Chandini's door. In a matter of second Chandini was downstairs and the door was open. At first she was shocked to see Ridhima at her home but then the shock was quickly replaced by a smile.
"Arre, Ridhima beti please come inside," said Chandini.
"Thanks aunty," said Ridhima as she made her way in. As usual whenever she went inside the house Ridhima was in shock at how beautiful the house was.
"Your house is stunning Aunty," said Ridhima.
"I know beta," began Chandini, "You tell me that all the time!" They both laughed as they sat down in the living room.
"So beta how's life? What makes you come here," said Chandini. She was of course just playing dumb, she knew why Ridhima was here but according to the 'plan' she had to be oblivious.
"I am fine aunty," said Ridhima, "It's just you know⌠After that day at the hospital I was kind of thinking about marriageâŚ. Um with your son?" Ridhima said hesitantly. She didn't know how to put this, she didn't want Chandini to think that she didn't trust her son but she also wanted to know more about him.
Chandini understood this completely. She also knew that Ridhima was a very smart and independent girl and just because she HAD to get married it didn't that she would rush in to it.
"Listen Ridhima I know how you feel about this whole will that you signed but you also need to understand that you need to give marriage a chance." said Chandini. Ridhima was a little surprised because even though she was close to Chandini that didn't mean that they talked about this issue, in fact it was never brought up other than today. It made Ridhima wonder if Chandini and Padma often talked about her marriage.
"I know how your mother feels about this issue. You may not know it but she talks to me about it and often gets very emotional. Ridhima it is every mother's wish to see their daughters settle down and be happy but your behavior is very negative in that way." Ridhima's eye's welled up and Chandini put her hand on top of Ridhima's.
"I don't wish to make you sad but since you have to get married anyways why not look into it as a long term thing instead of short term? That is why I have brought up the issue of my son," Chandini continued, "He also needs to get married, I want him to settle down beta." Ridhima nodded in understanding but asked,
"Aunty I get all this and even though he is your son he must be great but I only have 2 weeks to get to know him. Actually not even the wedding has to be arranged within these 2 weeks" Now Ridhima was panicking! "Oh My God I have only 2 weeks left," Ridhima thought and got worried.
"You are right aunty, I could never get a guy in 2 weeks and even if I did, we wouldn't last. I am looking into this aunty and your son seems like the perfect option! He is your son so he is bound to be as good as you!" Ridhima said all this smiling, while Chandini sat their not believing her ears.
"That's great Ridhima! Here now I must tell you everything about my son the one and only Armaan Malik."
Chandini got up to grab a photo while Ridhima sat their not believing her ears. Armaan Malik? The famous business man? But she didn't know that he was known as the famous "Play boy businessman" as well. When Chandini came back she had a photo frame in her hands.
"This, Ridhima Gupta, is my son Armaan Malik!" Chandini said proudly showing her the photo.
Ridhima felt as if she had been looking at the picture of some sort of a god-like- male model. This man had such strong features. With his strong jaw line and seductive blue eyes he looked no less than a playboy. She mentally smacked herself for even thinking about that, "He's Chandini aunt's son silly, no way he's going to be like that," she thought to herself. But she just couldn't stop staring, it was strange because Ridhima didn't waste her time ogling at boys He looked built as well, but not in that big bulky way. And the way his hair was just almost covering his eyes made him look more cute than sexy. She didn't realize that she was literally drooling over this picture until Chandini giggled and nudged her.
"Dear I know my son is good looking but seriously I think you should stop staring at his picture and get to know more about him." She laughed.
Ridhima blushed for a second but than put on the serious look on her face again. "Yes aunty," she said, "Please tell me more about your son."
That's when Chandini's little white lies were put into action. She told very little details about Armaan but talked more about them. Things about how dedicated to business he was, how he expanded the Malik Empire on his own and never really thought about himself and getting married. This was some what true but Chandini decided to miss out the details about his childhood and how he grow up, and how he didn't even want to get married! She knew she could probably convince Armaan to give Ridhima a chance if only Ridhima agreed. After awhile of talking Ridhima got up and announced that she was ready to meet Armaan.
"Aunty I would really like to meet your son and talk about this. You know to see how he feels?" said Ridhima. Chandini was delighted by this but also worried at the same time, how would Armaan feel about this? He hadn't even called back yet!
But never the less she agreed. "Of course Ridhima, I will call him tonight and find out if you guys can go out for coffee tomorrow. Does that sound good?" Chandini offered. "That would be nice. Anyways I should get going now," said Ridhima, "See you tomorrow than?" Chandini nodded and after their goodbyes, Ridhima left, leaving Chandini worried and still waiting for Armaan to call.
Once Ridhima got outside the house she breathed a sigh of relief. She had handled the situation pretty well. Chandini aunty thought that Ridhima would want to meet Armaan to get to know him when Ridhima actually wanted to meet him and tell him about the will. It was a crazy idea but she knew it was the only way out of the marriage later. She as an honest person and she wanted to start this relationship, well if there would be one soon, on a good note. Now all she needed was Armaan to want to meet her and then she would discuss this issue.
On the other hand Armaan was completely confused for almost the whole day until he decided to finally call his mother. He would meet this girl alright and maybe even tell her about the deal and why he wanted to get married. It wasn't that he cared how she would feel after they possibly split up, it was that he didn't want to look low in his mothers eyes if Ridhima went crying to her. So after a lot of pressuring himself, he finally called his mother. And when she picked up he could tell that she was waiting for his call because of the urgency in her voice.
"Hello Armaan!" she almost yelled. "Hey mom calm down there. Looks like you were waiting for me to call," Armaan said as a matter-of-factly. Chandini decided to play it cool and not rush into things. "Err. . of course not son, I wasn't just uhh⌠okay so tell me why you called. Did you get her picture?" Chandini rushed into the details. Armaan smiled, oh his mother could never lie to him, well almost never. "Armaan, are you still there?" Armaan came out of his thought and began to think of something naughty, just to scare his mother.
"Uh mom, I don't knowâŚ" he began.
Chandini was having a heart attack by now, "DON'T KNOW WHAT?"
"Well mom I know you have a good taste in things but maybe not in girls," Armaan said biting his lip trying to break into laughter while Chandini was fuming, "She's fat mom! And she has a nose the size of a pigs! And her lips are so red it like she eats cherry popsicles all day!" Armaan was lying none of this was true but on the other side of the phone he could basically feel how angry his mother was feeling. So he decided to get it over with and tell her the truth.
"But you know what mom? I think I should meet her you know? Coffee or something?" he said laughing as Chandini sighed in relief. After scolding him for his stupid joke she told him to meet her for coffee tomorrow and as soon as she gave him the address she hung up so she could call Paddy.
Paddy was basically screaming on the phone when she heard the good news. She hoped that they could fall in love with each other through this marriage and live together happily forever. Paddy took the address of the coffee shop to give to Ridhima and the two were suppose to meet at 2 o'clock. Now the mothers just prayed that nothing went wrong in the 'perfect' plan.
