'I only get chocolates'
Says child actor Ahsaas Channa, while money matters are taken care of by her mother
ROSHNI MUKHERJEE
How did Phoonk happen?
• I was watching Jodhaa Akbar when I got a call from Ramuji's office. I met him and heard the story, after which mom was in two minds about my taking up the offer. But I was very excited and didn't want to miss out on the opportunity.
What did you do about it?
• I wrote a letter to my mom saying, please accept the offer and stuck it on the wall. She got the message and I got my Phoonk.
Considering that this is a horror film, did it give you creeps while shooting for it?
• More than scared, I was excited to be a part of a Ramuji film. My earlier film, Vaastu Shastra, had him as the producer. As a director, this is my first with him. There was a scene where I had to touch the roof. That had me in jitters and I started praying to Hanuman. Then Ramuji joked, 'Ram and Gopal are here and you are praying to Hanuman?'
You must be a braveheart?
• Well, I was so scared while dubbing that I asked my mother not to leave the dubbing studio.
Did Ramuji call you by a special name?
• He would ask me whether he could call me by my screen name Raksha or Sweetie. With your kind of popularity, your kitty must be full of offers?
• I want to do something challenging, something like Rani (Mukerji) in Black. As of now, I have My name is 340, which is a thriller. Since you have to be on the job most of the time, do you miss not getting enough playtime?
• No, it isn't like that at all. Whenever I am free, I play, swim, take Kathak lessons and do a host of activities.
What about balancing studies?
• My mom takes my books to the sets. And I'm a very good student (laughs).
So, your friends don't treat you like a star in school?
• In my personal life, I'm a normal girl. When I reach the sets, I'm an actor. My friends treat me as one of them. You have done films where you played a boy. How does it feel to be a girl now?
• I had a lovely time playing a boy and a girl now. And what does this girl do with the money?
• My mom knows best. I only get chocolates. Who decides on what movies to do?
• My mother decides that. What if your mom had said no to Phoonk?
• It isn't like that. She knows what's good for me. And who teaches you to answer like a pro?
• My mother. She also helps me with acting.
