How many Sadafs are there in this drama?

  • Student Sadaf
  • Sadistic Sadaf, who rejected Amaar and told him to die
  • Traumatized Sadaf, who was shattered by illness and death
  • Sellout Sadaf, who tried to sell herself to Bilal
  • Heartless Sadaf, who rejected Bilal
  • Cheap Sadaf, who married Amaar
  • Now divorced Sadaf

Friends, what kind of character development is this?

Bilal is in love with Mirza Sahab’s daughter, but that girl doesn’t exist anymore. She’s gone. The real question is:

Can Sadaf ever become Mirza Sahab’s daughter again?

To be with Bilal, she has to become Mirza’s daughter again.

Jokes aside, the Sadaf Bilal fell in love with—the one in his heart and mind—is completely different from the real Sadaf now.

I think that's what scares Bilal and why he keeps his distance from her.

Even after that you can always skip flashbacks as new scenes would still be tight and well paced one their own. This strategy they tried in smd since the start to slow everything down including dialogue delivery and mundane details, just ruins the whole product.

My question is that if Kadwani wanted a commercial product why not choose a commercial director ?? Why Haseeb , who is known for slow dramas ?

Maybe I’m so used to Ammar bawling his eyes out because I feel like Bilal barely cries. Sulks and broods yes, but crying, not so much.

Nothing in this screams commercial and I refuse to believe that the producers that have been in this for as long as they have didn’t know this. There’s no way they didn’t take note of the slow pace, especially on mundane scenes

An average ptv drama budget is $120,000 for the entire series (pkr 3-4 crore). SMD is supposed to be very expensive by ptv drama standards though I don't see where it was spent - as many of the cost drivers such as huge cast, lots of exterior locations, special costumes, special effects, exclusive locations is not present here. the wedding was where i saw money being spent but it was such a waste i felt. also, we don't have special sets made for ptv dramas but they are shot in existing houses/buildings. You'll see same 15-20 houses in 90% of ptv dramas as the owners rent them out just for shoots

How does Green spend so much? They must depend heavily on their YouTube collections

The script and story might not be commercial but the producers and director have tried to make it one. Whether it’s with the misleading promotions or the utterly needless dragging. It’s clear that they expected to be a hit drama.

Noone read the script. They saw the outline - the rich drunken billionaire tycoon who reforms for love and becomes the selfless lover, the 8 crore deal, the mann mayal 2.0 shaadi problems and evil husband, attempted suicides, femme fatale dania, affairs and escorts, saazishi humsha, iddat dating and thought they had some masala entertainer on their hand. Haseeb probably told them he can make a masala show out of it which he did by adding flimsy nighties, alcohol ka overdose, nangi tangain, cringe intimacies, wahaj beauty shots and hero entries, out of cktr and misplaced eye fu**ing, terrible suspense/thriller/horror background music to scenes, and doubling down on overacting and melodrama. But then he tried to intellectualize it also by adding slomo long pauses and mundane details as if he is making a merchant ivory art film about idyllic country life in 18th century England. In the end he made some khichdi where flavors were out of balance and ingredients made no sense.

I think this show could have been executed as either a masala or a philosophical experimental project. What Haseeb did fit neither. I do think a good commercial director could have made a good masala entertainer (masala not mean cheap loud melodrama - I meant something along the lines of nadeem baig or musaddiq malik). But haseeb lacks that instinct and vocabulary. Every effort he made to make masala out of it was contrived and nonsense. Its like having a tone deaf person try to create music. The second option was to go the Alif way where your focus on the philosophy and authenticity of emotions. He didn't do that either. It didn't even need to be as experimental as that even. Dastak i am watching about has some parallels with smd but it's written acted and directed so sensibly and maturely. Its still a commercial drama just not a trashy one.

The show is so loosely structured that creative directors could have molded it in different ways based on the treatment and direction they wanted. The problem is haseeb had mo understanding or vision of the script and cktrs. You needed a director who took a position on what he thought was the central premise how storytelling unfolds and ctrs progress in keeping with that. Haseeb just followed script as is without looking at subtext arcs or connections.

I think I agree with this...the main problem lies in the execution that's why the authenticity of emotions are no where to be felt. They wanted to put suspense in everything.

I just want the last 2 -3 episodes to air and want this drama to end...I am so done with the absurdities and nonsense ..my brain is just totally dead after trying to make sense of senseless dialogues smiley19

I agree with this...the script is nowhere commercial but there was too much pressure from channel and producers for giving it a mass appeal by chemistry, rich handsome hero etc etc..unfortunately nothing worked.

Commercial comes in wide variety of formats from serious and mature to cheap and trashy. This show had some masala elements but u needed a nadeem baig or musaddiq malik to make a commercial drama out of it. For them commercial is not trashy ott melodrama forced chemistry or zabardasti romance. They do commercial while keeping it restrained and real but still entertaining and thrilling. Many krq stories have been like smd though better written and with better cktrs and they were all considered commercial projects (not trashy wala commercial though).
