There’s a series of steps across “7 hills”…roughly 3500…that’s why Lord Balaji who is the deity at Tirupathi is known as “the 7 hills god” in the local language …the last 2 or so “hills” are supposed to be most difficult coz the steps are as high as ur knees and there is a steep incline …and u do it without footwear …
A generally fit person will climb all of it fine with no issues …there is also spots to take rest and street food to keep u fuelled …there is also a lot of monkeys on the way up …everyone feeds them and treats them well coz …hanuman ji
Ppl usually get off tirupathi airport / station , freshen up and go up the hills where the actual temple is either by climbing manually or via a bus/car drive…there is hotels and restaurants once u reach the top to stay for a few days and do a few visits to the temple
some ppl have very strenuous mannats like climbing 3500 steps via knees , lighting a kapoor at each step and placing it on the side or putting haldi kumkum at each of the 3500 ish steps , some break a narial at each step and put it on either side ..
Some ppl have a mannat to climb down manually aswell
