But is point pe hi itni baar jhoote daave kar diye pyar ke....lol and Mehru ka initial reaction sahi tha to the proposal but still later on she put that aside simply cuz she liked him even if she didn't trust him.....lol so ajeeb se hi reason ke liye shaadi ho gayi ki trust toh hai nahin and he keeps lying to her about how much he loves her but it's all baked in for her and she's fine with it because she is approaching the shaadi practically just to get his companionship.

Mahir ka character shuru se grey tha but his neeyat felt more clear when he first met Mehru and the initial friendship phase....but the moment he made this choice to USE Mehru to achieve his motive of getting back at all the people who have insulted and hurt him for so long....toh phir kaafi taint hi hogaya uska character. Uske baad se toh I find it hard to believe any claim he makes....lol there are very few moments where his real self peeks through when you can tell he wasn't putting on an act simply to manipulate Mehru and gain her favor. LOL he thinks he was being oh so smart in how he orchestrated Mehru asking him to go manage the office.....but then jhatka lag gaya when he overheard Mehru saying she doesn't trust him and he can only misuse her trust as much as she allows it....lol EGO pe le li bhaisaab ne baat and vowed to gain her absolute trust and then misuse it

Beech beech mein kuch scenes genuine lage like when he got her the glass bangles and once again unknowingly fulfilled her long held wish. In that moment again woh feel aaya that his simple wishes were always meant to find and compliment Mehru's wishes....just that he himself was so trapped in the world of people making him feel small for not being rich while Mehru was trapped in the rich world where wanting simple things was frowned upon.

Phir woh ek bakery mein tha scene I think right after they went shopping for that suit for him and the shop waale presumed he was her son....lol toh he asked her if people ever presumed her to be Hidayat ki daughter and she was like bahut baar hua yeh.....that way I like that they point out the double standards of men not being judged as much for marrying much younger women but in the case of a woman doing it, then people judge more. But these are the moments where Mahir comes across as genuine when he fights back on her behalf against people judging their marriage.....haan woh irony hai that people calling him a clever gold digger are not far off the mark since that was one of the reasons he married her but simultaneously he seems genuinely offended by anyone disrespecting their relationship so him pushing back at that seems genuine.

It's quite a strange setup in some ways....lol he is indeed being manipulative in this marriage and she KNOWS he's using her for her money but she's ok going along with it....but on the other hand he's offended that she doesn't blindly trust him - not clear if he's offended cuz he needs her trust in order to get the business transferred to his name or its cuz he feels she owes him trust after all the efforts he's put in to charm her....lol

Oh and re: the lies being told in IM v/s the lies told by Mahir.....lol yes zameen aasmaan ka farak hai but then Shahmeer is being justified better as a character IMO.

He is a politician so its part of his basic skill set to move pawns around on the chessboard and manage people like Mehreen and Haroon Baig for political reasons also. But the show has done a good job of establishing the sincerity of his love for Shibra and they keep reiterating it enough that the lies and tall stories he's spun to keep the drama going have not butchered his character. In fact, they have made it light hearted with the way he defaults to using "Murshid Saayin" as his excuse for everything .....yes he's brazen in a sense with how many lies he's told - some very casual and impulsive but he's also been shown reflecting on his lies and how he feels trapped in them after a point.

Mahir ke case mein they only show him thinking about how to get back at his parents or the people who've insulted him...nothing so far about any guilt vis a vis using Mehru....lol baaki toh aage ki story dekh ke hi bol sakte hain.
