As India celebrates successfully its 75th Republic Day, let’s get into the deep meaning of this celebration, which is very dear to millions of Indians in and outside India.
Republic is derived from the Latin word “rēs pūblica” where rēs means matter or entity, and "pūblica" “public.” It means that the republic is a system where people and representatives, which are chosen by the people themselves, work hand in hand to contribute to the country’s growth.
On August 15, 1947, India became a free nation, but it was still under British dominion, headed by George VI as head of the state and Earl Mountbatten as the Governor-General. The rules and legislations followed by the Indians were also based on the modified Colonial Government of India Act framed in 1935.
On 29th August 1947, the Constitution Drafting Committee was instated to write the constitution of India under the able guidance of the great economist and the first law minister of Independent India Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
Interestingly, Republic Day could have been on 26th November 1949, as the Constitution, Purna Swaraj, was adopted on this day but due to many circumstances, it came into power on 26th January 1950. That day is a mighty step towards the independence of the country. The Indian National Congress and other parties used to celebrate that day as a mark of respect to millions of Indian soldiers who fought for the freedom of the country.
The day is celebrated with great parades adorning the Indian flag and marching across the streets of India. In New Dehli, on Rajpath, the President of India hoists the flag and accepts the military parade’s salute.
The parade shows the diversity and cultural heritage of India through various folk dances, tableaus, and military displays. Also, schoolchildren, paramilitary groups, and the Indian armed forces take together in the march to display their discipline, patriotism, and unity.
The Crazy Creatives wishes everyone a very Republic Day. Let us be the ambassadors of peace and remember the sacrifices made to reach a beautiful multicultural country which is our Incredible India.
