The thing people disliked was sharma couples illegal, insensitive act of snatching someone's else's kid and posing it as their. It's like the worst thing to do in this world. All this because akshara couldn't take it on her ego that abhiM didn't want her , so she snatched his baby as well.
It seems viewers, including legacy viewers, were chased away for various reasons. I saw, in SM, some legacy viewers didn't like the constant torture done to a single character, and I believe that viewers might have not liked character inconsistency in Ak especially cuz viewers always connect with the FL most and third is the reason the one you mentioned about paternity fraud. I was really surprised when a FL of the show was portrayed doing this.
I remember Ansh who was shot dead by Tulsi, his mother, because he was a criminal and put Nandani in danger. FLs' actions always have been reasonably justified in the story. But in YRKKH, Abhimanyu was never portrayed as a criminal or an evil person. Yet, Ak did this kind of this act purely out of animosity 🤦♀️.
Anyhow makers brought their destruction through their writing. Actors can always find a show after this but it is makers who have to bear the consequences of the actions. Instead of writing a good quality story for gen 4 to give a justification to the viewers and the actors they show their agenda through the writing. How can they expect from viewers to watch the show when the status of show is subpar? They are clearly underestimating them.
