I didn't see prior title, and current one seems fine. But plagiarism needs to be called out whenever it's seen. These are billionaires stealing from writers who're barely making rent.

The 1994 YRF movie Yeh Dillagi (akshay, saif, Kajol) Ole Ole song

It was copy of Sabrina lol ( a films from 1950s)

But then Hollywood itself remade Sabrina 🤣🤣 in 1990s also

I agree with you, HMR, that plagiarism should be called out...if the plagiarism is a proven fact.

I guess one has to have watched both movies to judge for oneself if there is plagiarism or remake or inspiration... I'll read the article posted above (by MostlyHarmless)...

See, this is the thing. Ideas cannot be copyrighted. If I wrote a story about best friends realizing they are in love when the girl gets engaged to the boy's brother, YRF can easily use the plotline.

Legal? Yes.

Ethical? No.

More so because they can well afford to pay the writers or pay for rights. What they're doing is stealing from people who can't afford it and can't afford to fight back. Such as the Indian writers who're not Hollywood producers.

Blaming SRK for it is stupid because he was not the producer. But it's still plagiarism. I do wish SRK would speak out about it though. He has clout in the industry now to do so.

Plagiarism is one of those things that can be cut and dry or murky grey. Many movies and songs are indeed plagiarized. But plot similarities don't always mean plagiarism.

For example, the concept of star-crossed lovers is so universal that every culture, every civilization, every historical era, and every genre has its own star-crossed lover story. Romeo-Juliet, Heer-Ranjha, Soni-Mahiwal, Laila-Majnu, Venus-Adonis, Popocatépetl-Iztaccíhuatl, Tristan-Isolde.

That is true. But when it gets a little specific like LVRB, it's plagiarism.

Legally untouchable because it's still an idea, and microspecifics are diff.

Still unethical.

When SRK is producer, he can be blamed. I don't understand what else you're talking about. SRK was not the producer of Swades.
