100% right. This is exactly how it should have been done and would have made sense. That she tears the contract, confesses to him and then makes Maryam elope, which leads to him leaving her and in anger telling her that he was only taking revenge (as bad as this plot is)

Then even the foreshadowing dialogue would have made sense, and so would the OST - kya hoti hai bewafai - because he left her.

The whole story could have been different and palatable at that point.
