Agreed. Also hitting the children was one of the issues the authorities identified. The report I read said that care workers observed the mother was disorganised, unpunctual, wasn’t able to create a routine for her kids. I don’t want to presume, here but beating children should be looked down in every culture. It’s definitely not something you can normalize or pass it off as some usual spanking. There’s a clear power differential at play and any parent that feels the need to discipline their child through violence needs to seriously assess themselves.
They enrolled the mother in counselling to help but there were no improvements. During one of these sessions she got into an argument with the care workers and that’s when they decided to take the children into care.
Honestly speaking, if you (1) hit your child, and (2) are unpunctual and disorganised to the point that you are unable to keep a simple routine for your children; I can see why the authorities would suspect you of child neglect.
