Quite common in alcoholic families. Yours truly snitched a drink at age 4 in a sippy cup and was roundly trashed by Mummyji. I've seen teen-aged cousins giving little ones a tiny sip. Though grownups never did that. The intention was that if you grow up thinking alcohol as normal, then you wouldn't overindulge once you reach legal drinking age. The same with money.
