Good point. I have not seen Bridgertons but I knew about it and forgot 😆.

I still stand by the rest of my point. PC’s career in the U.S. is more of an influencer these days than an actress.

She doesn’t talk in that accent on steroids to fit in. She does it to stand out. 😆

If PC is making herself diff because of race, it's rather silly because others of the same race as her have succeeded while being 100% themselves.

Why blame Hollywood for racism when it's about herself?

Irrfan was tremendously successful. Much more than PC, in fact. I didn't mention Deepika. At all. Dhanush is a recent entrant in the group.

With re: success. Audience makes a star a star, same as in Bollywood. Complaining that *Hollywood* is not accepting is actually complaining *white audience* does not want to see brown characters. Hollywood has one main color: green. If the movie/show makes money, they won't care about the skin color of the actors. Those movies/shows don't make money because audience doesn't watch them.

People want to watch shows they relate to. That fact is pretty well known to creative types around the world. No amount of blaming racism will change it.

I think you are oversimplifying things. Yes Hollywood is all about the green, but it’s your average American audience that generates the green. And the average American audience isn’t always accepting of people who don’t look like them. Hollywood is definitely racist and misogynist and I’m sure Priyanka has had her fair share of experiences with both. All of that being said, she had a prime time drama on ABC for 3 years which truly is huge. She just wasn’t able to utilize that success into another show or a movie career. I don’t think her case after Quantico was necessarily racism. Agism maybe. I think for whatever reason she and her management and her PR weren’t able to make her become that break out star of Quantico. As such she just did not become known outside of fans of the show, not until she married Nick Jonas and now she’s known as his wife. And Nick himself isn’t a top tier star.

Isn't that exactly what I said?😕

Racism aside, the average American audience also watched Denzel Washington and Whoopi and Halle and Penelope Cruz and so on.

Those actors are culturally similar. Desi actors not so much. It's not a conscious or even subconscious decision of this lady is brown, and I don't want to watch. It's more like I'm not interested.

Where racism comes into play in Hollywood is how the nonwhite actors are taken advantage of. The history of black movie stars/singers being taken for a financial ride is well documented. Some studio bosses do act like POCs should be satisfied with scraps. Race does come into play there in the sense that they see a power disadvantage because of race and use it to their benefit.

As far as roles are concerned, if they've proven themselves, studios will line up. They like to make money.

Really, sometimes I feel PC of India and PC in America are 2 diff women. I can't see the actor who did 7 Khoon Maaf and Don in the American desi version. Don't know why.

This pretentious ness also comes on the screen when she plays her “badass” roles …throughout Quantico there is always a lingering thought that this is priyanka trying really hard to get her Hollywood breakthrough ..she has this off putting “look at me” kinda acting in there ….

And it dosent feel like a role anymore …it feels like a tool used for her career

No wonder the show tanked

Irfan or heck even anupam kher, we’re so much more natural onscreen in their Hollywood films …it just looks like they are in character and werent trying to hog attention or limelight

Anil kapoor has the same problem as pc when it comes to acting abroad

I took your post to mean racism wasn’t an issue in Hollywood at all because everything is about money and profit. If I misunderstood then my bad.

I agree with everything else you said. Well, as it turns out I agree with everything you said 😆.

Mindy Kaling is someone who has struggled through the years and is now big enough to dictate her terms. I don't think there's a feasible path for Priyanka to get to that level. But Priyanka being successful can help the next actor trying to break through. They perhaps won't have to try so hard to fit in.

How many names should there be to name when desi Americans are about 1% of the population? 4 million out of 350 million.

Short of nepo actors, most HW actors without connections do struggle to reach the top, not just Mindy. But she did succeed, and she was 100% herself, including less than 10/10 figure.

Kal, Senthil, Irrfan, etc, never tried to be fake. Nor did Aziz. In fact, Aziz plays up his brownness. Simone can fade tomm, but she still isn't trying to be someone else.

PC is faking it, and fakeness always grates. There is racism in HW, but in money and not getting roles, and that excuse don't wash as a reason for PC's failure.

Irfan and Anupam are leagues above in acting skills, look at shabana in a movie called madame souzsatka, it is a proper english movie and she does a great job (role is of course of a indian immigrant), same as tabu in namesake who got rave reviews.

honestly, priyanka is a decent actress but not earth shaking, she is ok by BW standards thats it (same for deepika). but not like some worlds best.

same with frieda pinto, she was mediocre

and indians are not some great majority in america that a average american will want to watch them or there will be movies featuring them

in fact UK will have more mainstream oppurtunities

i mean tom alter played only anglo indian roles, british actors are cast only as evil colonialists because the stories dont fit them in anything else in hindi films

in india we are still discussing whether south hero will be accepted in hindi, they have accent etc how will indian actors find mainstream space in US which is so far removed

maximum they will be cast as that odd indian here and there
