Really so what is the best actor based off of? Is it an actor with a terrible career finally managing to give a decent performance? And how do you know he is going to get the critic's award already?
Popular actor like I said is based on performance as well as popularity. It seems like you just dont want to accept the popularity aspect of it - Shershah was immensely popular amongst the movie watching audience (not critics) as a movie and Sid's titular character was way more popular than Vicky's character.

I want to know how are you measuring popularity exactly? I haven't gotten anything concrete. Both were on OTT platforms. Both were very highly viewed. One film was slightly more viewed. But that does not make the other an arthouse film in comparison. It was widely viewed as well. Way more popular by what measure?

Art house movies hardly make any money. Sardar Udham was not that low on popularity either. Like I said it is competing with Hollywood films in terms of ratings on IMDB. Those ratings are done by the public. And on or two people hitting five stars would not cut it. It is not that far behind Shershah in terms of popularity.
Even if you go on to Amazon prime. One has almost 600 reviews. The other is over 800. Again Kiara and Dharma productions would automatically set up a film to be promoted more and get more buzz. But I don't think Sardar Udham can be called an art house film in comparison.
Shershah had action, romance, patriotism, a larger than life hero, chartbuster songs, etc. Compared to that Sardar Udham is pretty arty if not an out and out art house movie.
I dont believe in IMDB scores, but since you bring it up, Shershah and Sardar Udham both are rated 8.4/10 there. One small difference - Sardar Udham has 40k votes while Shershah has almost 120k votes (3 times). Very clear right, on which was watched and liked more if IMDB is the standard

For the longest time Sardar Udham had an 8.8 almost 9 rating. That is why it made a list with Hollywood films. And Shershah never did. 40K votes is still a lot of votes.

From what I can see Sardar Udham was trending on Amazon prime as well.

Ok you just named how Shershah was a more commercial film compared to Sardar Udham. You never showed me how Sardar Udham goes down to the art-house level? Yes, it was more of an art-house film. But coming back to popularity those are almost always made on a super low budget because they will never recover. No art house film trends. And Sardar Udham was never that low on popularity either.
But yes agree to disagree.

I am seeing two star reviews by rotten tomatoes, ndtv extc extc. And even worse comments on Sidharth's performances.

And I do not know how you are measuring hype, public appreciation and more views. Like the article I previously posted shows Sardar Udham is still rated more highly on IMDB. That is ratings mostly done by the public. It is competing with Hollywood films for the highest-rated movies there.
Again I know movie buffs that have seen Sardar Udham but have yet to see Shershah. So I don't know to which extent the traction part is true. Even if it is true to some extent. Siddarth's performance was overrated. And yes if such an overrated performance wins over Vicky Kaushal's amazing one I would be appalled.
And I am not just making this is up because I want Vicky to win. You saw my initial reaction after watching Shershah. I was not impressed at all by Sidharth. I still feel he is overrated. His performance in Shershah was not award-worthy.
Hype? I think being close to being an Oscar nomination says a lot about hype. Other than that Sidharth has Dharma to create hype. Yes, Sidharth is an overrated actor. I think him winning a Filmfare over a performance which Vicky gave which many felt was Oscar-worthy (with filmmaking degrees) is blasphemy.

Oy.
Sardar Udham has an 8.4 rating on IMDB with 49K votes. Shershah has an 8.4 rating on IMDB with 119K votes.
Sardar Udham didnât come close to being nominated for an Oscar. It was on a list of movies India was considering submitting to the Academy for consideration. There were 10-11 other movies on that list among them Shershah as well. Ultimately India chose not to submit Sardar Udham, and even if it had been submitted it doesnât automatically mean it would have gotten the nomination.
Iâm making an argument based on how the two movies were received and how that will factor into Filmfareâs wins based on how Filmfare wins have gone in the past. You are making an argument based entirely on your personal opinion on the movies and the actors.
My opinion is Sid is a good actor and he did a great job in Shershah and it will be more than fair if he wins a Filmfare. My speculation is he is very likely to win the Filmfare popular award because of how well Shershah was received combined with the praise he got for it.
Iâm done with this discussion for real now. Peace out âđ˝
