I am not saying that the Kashmiri Pandit genocide was a small issue. However, with the passage of time, it became a simmering sentiment that very few people felt constantly or thought of as frequently. As some characters in the movie too express, on a national scale there was not a lot of empathy or support. The movie changed that and made emotions that people personally experienced at home into something they could experience large scale with a larger audience of people in a theater. Maybe it was always there but I don't think people got to experience it with a much larger community in a theater before the movie was made.
To me, the ability to capture emotions an individual feels personally and present them on a big screen is part of the larger-than-life aspect of cinema. It is the same reason why some romantic movies like DDLJ feel larger-than-life - they cater to the dreamy romanticism people have within them. The Kashmir Files did that with people's anger, pain, and frustration.
But if you disagree with my assessment, so be it. I'll try to refrain now because I don't want to derail an interesting thread on account of my perspective on a movie.
That could be bcz there was barely any coverage in the Indian media about it
And this is my guess - They were the upper(most)caste - That could be another reason for less sympathy

"Oye tune Sunny Deol ke khilaf nahin bola. Abhi Arjun Kapoor ko kayku gaali derelay?"
Iska kya to bhi fayda nahin. Jab man kiya, bola.
There is no novelty, wow factor, story telling, everything is repetition of what’s already done and worked.
Reasons:
1) Nepotism, going out of the way to promote talentless star kids including nepotistic writers, directors and other industry professionals
2) Lazy writing, cut and paste from the South; no real original scripts, all biopics, remakes and boring content
3) Lack of original music, no more iconic music that Indian cinema is known for. At this point they are just recycling songs from the 90’s.
4) No more focus on dancing abilities or dance songs, another huge part of Bollywood that has just vanished.

His TV fans didn't complain about him not getting work in films. His TV fans were fans of his work in TV series. The ones who started all this complained about the film industry. Maybe a few might have joined them, but not all TV fans did that.
Sushant's death had sent the whole country into shock, and a lot of his fans came forward on social media with demands to have a CBI enquiry into his death. However, later on, many trolls and IT Cell bots got mixed up with the crowd, and they are mostly the ones involved in #Justice4SSR trends now. his genuine fans don't do these ridiculous antics, not anymore. Only a few brainwashed people (who were never his fans but got brainwashed by the media and Arnab's yelling) and bots do it.

I have been harassed by SSR on this forum so many times. Moderators did nothing. I hate his rabid fans over the fact these losers could not understand people get depressed.
1.Becoz of advent and too much consumption of OTT people habit have changed. Now they will flow to cinema's to watch only those movies which will be larger than life, interesting, family entertainer and guaranteed entertainer other films which doesn't appeal them they will watch it in OTT.TKF works since it has a big unknown issue which was not known to film audience and it has mass appeal too.BB2 works becoz it has horror comedy genre which genre of film was launched after ages,it's sequel of a popular movie and a family entertainer too.People after pandemic wanted to see happy and entertaining movies instead of unhappy and sad movies.
2.Also the feeling and use of westernisation in bollywood movies nowadays. They needed to make movies suitable to India not western.Thats why South movies are working since they are making movies which Indian audience could connect to these have Indian root.Pushpa(smuggling red sandalwood angle),RRR(British angle), Bahubali (Maheswati old Indian kingdom angle) etc. Lal Singh Chadda has a autistic person getting in Indian army when it is tough or impossible for a person with disability to go in Indian military.
3.Also bollywood needed to stopped making these social drama movies they have stopped working now they could shift these type of movies in OTT.Also these patriotic personality based bollywood makes here and there should be made less.Har saal 5-6 movies each genre baante he hai bollywood mein based on these two genres.Rather than that bollywood could make some old kingdom based movies (like Mani Ratnam is making a movie based on Chola kingdom),some huge patriotic event movie just like Kashmir films, horror movies, romantic movies, family entertainer, comedy movies, mysthological movies, sci-fi etc.
4.Also they should produce good music.Becoz of remakes of songs achi songs ki kami ho gayi hai bollywood mein.
5.They also needed to do budget cuts now.Why the hell are they giving 50+ crores fees to flop and box office failed actors-actresses.Rather than giving such huge fees to actors-actresses use that money to hire good writers. They should make movies on low budget now so that the movies will atleast recover it's budget.
6.I don't believe this is due to boycott but because of bad content movies made by bollywood directors currently.Agar boycott work hota Gangubai(Alia was known as the flagship and main culprit in SSR),BB2,83(it didn't work and flop becoz of huge budget but it still it got ok and decent box office run), Sooryavanshi 2 etc wouldn't have worked.
Its a low phase, it comes & go, no need for introspection.

Anurag Kashyap: I watch mainstream cinema a lot but lately the Hindi mainstream does not engage me at all.
Ab industry ke hi log nahin dekhte toh public ko kyun blame karna 😉.
