That decade belonged to SRK. But it was a close call. HR didn't have the volume to overtake SRK even if they were more or less equal as box-office draws.

2000s was much more about PR and media stuff. Media didn't report actual numbers. They went by publicity.

If you look at the footfalls of the top-5 biggest hits of the decade, Gadar > 3 Idiots > K3G > KNPH > Mohabbatein.

Coincidentally, SRK's biggest hit in the 00s starred HR in a pivotal role.

If we look at the rest, #6-10, you'd have Ghajini > Dhoom 2 > Devdas > Lagaan > Krrish.

4/10 HR movies in there. SRK has 3/10. For the alleged ruler of the 00s, that's not an impressive number.

What SRK had was consistency. Most of his blockbusters were metro driven. That's why he was found out during the 2010s.

SRK's trump card was the NRI market. Even today, he's untouchable there. In India, however, it was a close call between him and HR (in the 00s).
