Umm bro I know them since I was in diapers, they are Chawlas AND they are Sindhis. No idea how it works but their ancestry is from Sindh.

The Bablani, Chanchlani aka the "ani" ending surnames are a 100% giveaway that a person is Sindhi. The "ani" stands for "descended from a common male ancestor". Its a Sindhi variant of "anshi" (Sankrit word "ansh" aka descended from, like Sooryavanshi).

But then some surnames don't end like that...for examples Sippys who are also ancestral Sindhis and the full spelling of their surname is Sipahimalani.

My complex has the most number of Sindhis and I actually spoke to them in detail. Most are the first generation who moved to India post partition so they pretty much cleared my doubts.

Yes, their caste is Kshatriya even though Sindhi Hindus avoid putting themselves in a caste system (Raja Dahir's abolishion). But they fall into a sub caste of Lohana, which further have divisions.

Punjabis, Sindhis and Pahadi Rajputs are usually Kshtriyas only. Hence there are lots of similarities yet many differences.

And not every Maharashtrian is a Maratha...usually only those call themselves Maratha who descend from Marathas. The common term they still use is Maharashtrian only though.

What I mean about Shansher's family is they seem to be Punjabis who moved to Sindh...like how people all over India move to either Delhi, Mumbai so the future generations are different than their ancestors. The makers should have given a clearer picture... maybe in future episodes...but anyways one thing which is clear is it is based in Karachi. Coz Shamsher's accent at a couple of places isn't the standard Urdu accent we get to hear in the shows.

Ab Sindh nahi aaya, Punjab ka bhi pura...uski history main yahan nahi likhungi, too sensitive it can be 😆
