Although Samantha has crafted her career with balance, this statement about her item song is out of sorts. It has definitely not garnered her respect, maybe it has turned a few eyeballs, that's all. The thing is Samantha has great range and dances well. She could have easily gone for much sturdier item song where her oomph and dance skills would have elevated the song, but here she was completely overshadowed by AA and she came across as a try hard. A good example of item song in recent past in Tollywood would be, Kajal Agarwal in Pakka Local, Pooja Hegde in Jigelu Rani and Tamannah in Swing Zara. Of course, there are exceptional songs like Ringa Ringa Or the item songs in Magadheera and Bahubali 1&2.

My personal views or opinions on the song dont matter. The point here is the song is a massive hit across the country and people know the actress performing that song by her name as well, nothing like the other two songs of Kajal Or Pooja that you have mentioned or songs like ringa ringa where it was about the foot tapping music solely.

As far as respect is concerned.. She has been widely acknowledged and praised by the industry folks for doing this song including the leading man Arjun with him being extremely thankful to her for her contribution. It definitely garnered a lot of good will and Telugu industry runs massively on the good will, especially for heroines. From family man to o antava. Sam had a golden run professionaly in a span of one year.

About the "aesthetics" of the song, there will be hundred different opinions on that, like every other item number out there.

The song is popular due to the movie being a pan-indian hit, not the other way around. Also, do not gauge the public response from what you see on IF Or online elsewhere. This is a sample population of people extremely interested in movies. Even then I see people here not being sure of who she is. Pushpa put AA on the pan Indian map and Rashmika to an extent. Samantha had a poor response because she again failed to impress. A successful item song is Kamli by Katrina that saved a shitty movie. Similarly, other tracks from Pushpa are more popular than the item song, now that's saying something. The leading man of the movie would of course be thankful for the actress for choosing to do an item song. How is that a deciding factor of good will? ๐Ÿ˜†

Her item song had poor response in both the telugu states and other southern states where she's actually popular. I am constantly reiterating this because I watch local TV here.

Not questioning Samantha's choices or her wonderful career so far, just stating facts about how the item song is not all that it's made out to be. It's her PR going overboard so that she could bag BW projects. A web series like Family Fan did more for her Pan-India recognition than an item song in a commercial film.

@Detached: I barely visit IF, why do you think I'll form my opinions on the basis of this forum? ๐Ÿ˜† Chalo doesn't matter.

Why is a song a hit? It will always be multiple factors, that is not even a point of debate here. Who has gained out of the success of a song is what matters. May be the song hasn't worked in the telugu belt, but it has seeped into the hindi belt. The last time I saw a Telugu item song becoming so famous is a ante amalapuram but it put nobody on the map, because no social media.

Also why does it have to be a zero sum game? A movie can put multiple things and people on the map. It is not like if Arjun and Rashmika have gotten more recognition, then Samantha can't get. War thodi hai, ek ki jeet, doosre ki haar.๐Ÿ˜† Good if everyone is benefitting out of it.

And again Kamli, as I said, the popularity of item songs is not a zero sum game. Different songs will serve different purposes for different people involved, there is no hard and fast rule.

P. s. Family man is not massy. It can reach only a limited segment of audience. This was initially the point of the whole discussion. To become a star in truest of sense, one needs to maintain a fine balance of different genres.

Chalo I'm out of the discussion now, can't right more essays.

'Aloo abhi bhi namkeen hai' ๐Ÿ˜†

Nearly all Koratala Shiva movies are mass entertainers. There's no point for Alia to do a 5 min song-dance in the name of a movie, when she's beyond that at this point in her career.

Good deduction, I totally agree with you.

Wait ..what was so great about the song that it earned her respect or praise in the industry? There was no context to the song in Pushpa..the movie itself wasn't great..hit but not great.

She did the work that was offered to her..is there any backstory?

Sam looked so pretty in Eega..and so different..younger days

@Bold Thank you for saying this... I didn't like the song and dance at all... but then, I don't like South movies... ๐Ÿ˜†

@Red and Bold - that'll be Makhkhi movie in Hindi, right? I agree with this too, she looked very different and I quite liked her...
