Interesting and yes, now that you put it like that, her panic attacks are related to Arohi and Sirat. Never with Abhimanyu. Does she take him for granted - of course she does. There's never been any question about it, IMO. And I never saw her actually choose Abhi on her own. There has to be a push from behind or pull from in front.
The makers probably want to show her this way so that when the adoption truth comes out, her supporting and standing with Abhi will have maximum impact. But what they are not realizing is that the way she is right now, if she stands with him during that track, it will be hard to accept that kind of overnight change. Instead they could've shown her not hesitate in today's episode. That, combined with Abhi's words about Arohi would turn Arohi dark and she would bring out the adoption track.
Or maybe they plan to show her change after marriage. But there'd be nothing unusual in that now, would it? With time and as his wife, naturally she would lean towards him.
On a side note, honour is a big word. I like your posts. They see both sides of the coin. So it's great to finally interact with you.
Of course, it's an honour! This past year in my education, my focus has been writing and teamwork so this forum has been an excellent opportunity to practice both. With people like yourself, I get to explore different opinions, practice expressing myself, give and receive feedback, be respectful online in discussions, etc. So you are bettering me as a student and for that, it's an honour and pleasure to have you!
At the end of the day, I think Abhimanyu and the audience have to recognize there is no world where Akshu is happy without Aarohi. That's just who she is and the crux of the story (for me, and this is mainly what I'm watching the show for) will be her and Aarohi finding a healthy balance in their relationship so that Akshu's attachment wouldn't be her downfall. It is about Akshu and Aarohi's growth as individuals and as sisters. Abhimanyu places a huge role in this dynamic. After the marriage is when we'll get to explore Abhimanyu more as an individual, his background, his trauma etc (or so, I predict).
I actually think if Abhimanyu is the adopted child, it'll add to the similarities between him and Aarohi. Aarohi is Sirat's daughter so the connection she has to the entire family will never be the same as Akshu's. For example, while Kairav and Akshu call Naksh Mamu and Keerti Bua, Aarohi can only call them Bua with security. At the end of the day, the Singhania, despite their (minuscule) attachment to Sirat (Naksh let her tie a Rakhi to him, and in the flash-forward, she was referring to Naksh as Mamu for both her daughters, so maybe Aaru was taught to call him that initially), he'll have a preference for Akshu. Likewise, if Abhi's adopted, he'll begin to question his connection to the Birla's because that bond will be tainted by lies (no one told him that truth). They'll both come from the perceived "other".
Moreover, both of their families seem to ignore their misdeamenours. For example, Abhi's a rash and impulsive person who smashes stuff and disrespects his father (he has his reasons, I know, and I share many of them in my personal relationships, but I doubt the elders in his family see it that way). Yet, he's still treated the best out of the children and has little repercussions. Rather, his family gives into his demands. Similarly, Aarohi is a brat whose trauma and feelings have been prioritized over Akshu's all their lives. Both lost their parents the same day and held their mother's lifeless body in their hands yet one was consoled. When the Abrohi wedding fiasco happened, it was Akshu who begged for Manish's forgiveness after that day while Aarohi got to do her own thing - she didn't apologize more than once. She refused Manish's request to resign and got away with it.
