Just my two cents I want to share.
What the Kashmiri Pandits faced was not an exodus, it was a genocide. They only left the Valley because they feared for their lives. And because they refused to let go of their religious identity. Those who have watched the film are aware of the slogan used by extremists...which haunts the KPs till date.
Honestly, mujhe sab pe bahot gussa aata hai when I think about this. How the hell did the government- ruling and opposition- not do anything? Why was there no military action taken?
I was not born when this happened, but People of India, were you f**king sleeping when citizens of your own country were subjected to such atrocities?! Whether you were Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian...everyone's read the National Pledge, right?
"India is my country. And All Indians are my brothers and sisters. I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage."
Where was the bhaichara then? Aren't KPs a part of our rich and varied culture?
Till date, so many KP friends of mine and their families want to visit their homeland, but many are still haunted by what happened. I've seen them break down, remembering the horrors. What haunts them even more is that no one did shit for them at the time, and even now, some pseudo-journalists find excuses and ways to manipulate the narrative. They have great respect for Balasaheb Thakarey though.
Regarding this topic, good if they met the PM. Every movie needs that push for publicity so there is no harm if they met Modiji. At least the current govt (I don't forget anyone's sloppiness during the genocide, fyi) scrapped Article 370, which is a move towards the right direction.
And to every member of the forum, if we do not learn from our past, then our futures are dark. What I mean by that is this should not repeat itself or happen to any community. I had met many Germans when I was a student abroad, most of them young (in their 20s). Today if they condemn what generations before them did and are ashamed of what happened, then we can do it too.
I personally don't have the heart to watch the movie, but I bought tickets for my house helps who wanted to watch it. And everyone who can watch it, please do. See right and wrong for what it truly is.
