So my fellas just booked tickets for Gangubai this weekend. It was the first premiere in Saudi Arabia. To my surprise the seats WERE FULL. We managed to get three seats in a far deserted cinema. I kept whining to my boyfriend throughout the ride that after all the work stress what i get to watch is Alia's Gangubai on weekend.
Note: I dislike Alia. I find her baby faced , not so good actress , over-hyped , nepotism ki beti lol.
Honest Review
Regarding Alia:
I never found Alia beautiful or even close to cute. But man she looked stunning on the big screen. Every other person in the theatre kept saying she is so pretty , so beautiful , elegant and what not.
Her performance was really good. I haved watched her Raazi , Kalank and Ofcourse Student of the year etc 😛 Never she performed SO GOOD. I guess Alia has improved by miles and she is indeed a good actor.
My friend with me is not a bolly lover - but she kept singing accolades for Alia through out the movie so much that the people had to shush her down lol. She was all praise for her acting and went a mile ahead and said
' i think thats my fav bolly actress now lol' 🤣
So thats a neutral audience view for you guys.
Her change of expressions were good.
You just adapt her change of voice and grim expressions with her baby face through out the film.
The makeup and the stylists did a good job in showing her as a mature woman despite her having a complete baby face.
Infact i almost forgot that i have trolled her numerous times for her baby looking face and childlike labeling. I am extremely impressed by her acting in this one.
Regarding the movie:
Extremely long movie. No twists , gripping plot or strong ending. I did not have that wow feeling about the movie and story at all. The only thing that remained in my mind was her performance and the dholida song thats all.
It drags and gets boring in between.
Only Alia's performance hooks you up. I couldnt thank my stars enough after the movie ended. The dialogues were witty and good but in the end no WOW feeling. The movie is completely fictionalized. Gangubai's adapted daughter is against the movie. Alia looked far more glam , dolled up than i believe gangu bai would actually be. I kept thinking at the theatre was gangu baii in real actually that stylish and glammed up? Only to find a complete different drastic old age picture online. I wonder how much of a real depiction it is. Could have watched at home.
Anyhow impressed with her acting.
In my opinion Alia should focus on her positives as a star and should avoid songs and dance numbers like Lele mera number blahblah and that prada song. It makes the audience detest her and openly display her negatives.
