In America and I think the West in general, it's a 'thing' to show off one's engagement ring to all one's friends and colleagues at work, and then after marriage, everyone will come and admire the wedding set (engagement ring plus wedding band). I find it silly but yeah, I can see how the aussie would've been surprised that you weren't wearing your ring. Here if someone suddenly takes off their ring, people will gossip that the engagement is broken or marriage is on the rocks🤣
yahan toh full hands mehndi hi kaafi hai btane ke liye ..i try to hide my engagement in offc but offc collegues realize my mehndi hands ...nd that too till elbow ( in jaipur har baar haar cheez ke liye u have to put mehndi ,although i love it).🤣🤣
