But reading this now just makes me realise more the potential of this situation which the writers should take advantage of but don't know why I have a feeling they will mess this whole scenario even more

Okay here we go

Part 3

Aarohi entered the room she shared with Akshu. All her life, her room has been her safe space but ever since Akshu’s accident, she couldn’t stand being in the room. Without Akshu around, her room no longer felt safe. It no longer felt like her own. Akshu’s things and Akshu’s memories were everywhere. It has only been two weeks but they have felt like the longest two weeks of Aarohi’s life. I can’t believe I once told Akshu to go away. How did I even think I could spend the rest of my life without her. Aarohi spotted Akshu’s guitar by the window and smiled. Please come back soon, Akshu and wake me up at 5 am with your singing.

Aarohi sat on her bed and picked up Akshu’s pillow. It smelled like hibiscus oil. She held it close to her chest and dug her face in it. It smelled like her sister. Her Akshu. And before she knew it, she was crying. Big fat tears rolling down her face and making Akshu’s pillow wet. Aarohi could not believe how stupid she have been. How could she not see her sister? How could she not understand her sister? The sister who gave up everything for Aarohi…even giving up her love, yet all Aarohi gave her in return was pain. She silently prayed to Lord Krishna to make her sister better and she would do anything to make everything better.

For two weeks now, Abhimanyu lived in Akshu’s ICU room. He slept on the floor and only went out to shower and wear clean clothes. Manjiri would stand behind the glass door of Akshu’s room and beg him to come out and eat something. He will run out and eat a few bites never having his sight leave Akshara before running back in. Because he refused to leave the room and Akshu, the rest of the family will come and look at Akshu from outside.

Even though Akshu’s vitals were improving and she was weaned off the ventilator, she was still in an induced coma.

“When will Akshu wake up? It’s been two weeks now.” Bade Papa asked Dr. Mahima. Abhimanyu seeing Dr. Mahima talking to Manish, Akhil and Kairav Goenka, came out of the room as well.

“Manish-ji. As I’ve told you before, Akshara suffered many injuries including injuries to her head. She had a lot of brain swelling which thankfully have gone down now but we still have to give her body time to heal before we start the process of getting her out of her induced coma. I do need to tell you, we have no way of knowing if there has been any damage done to her brain until she wakes up. She might not be the same Akshara that we knew from before.”

“What do you mean by that? Will she not remember us?” Kairav asked remembering how once his Naira Maa lost her memory too.

“It’s okay if she doesn’t remember us. We will give her so much love that she will go back to remembering us in no time.” Bade Papa said.

“Haan bhai-Saab. In no time our Akshu will be singing and dancing again.” AG smiled.

“I don’t think you are understanding what I’m saying. Forget singing and dancing, right now we can’t tell you if she will even be able to walk or talk again.” Mahima shook her head “We can’t know anything until she wakes up.”

Dr. Mahima left her stunned audience to check on Akshara. Abhimanyu stood there outside trying to process this information. Won’t be able to sing? I fell in love with her because of her voice. But it doesn’t matter what she can or can not do, she will always have me. I will never leave her again.

Abhimanyu went back to Akshu’s room and sat next to the chair next to her bed. Dr. Mahima had recently allowed Abhi to hold Akshu’s hand as she has noticed it helped keep Akshu’s heart rate stable. She didn’t know how but it did and Dr. Mahima was trying to do anything in her power to keep Akshara stable.

Within a week, Akshu’s vitals have improved so much that she was finally shifted out of the ICU to a private room. Manjiri was glad that now Abhi had a bed to sleep on instead of the floor. Now even if it was one at a time, family members were finally able to visit Akshu who was still in an induced coma. Aarohi came to visit everyday, sitting next to her for hours telling her stories from their childhood.

Abhimanyu, on the hand, never left her room even for a second. The room had a private bathroom and food was brought to him daily. He slept for three hours at a time in a make shift bed in Akshu’s room. He wanted to be there when Akshu opened her eyes. He wanted her to see that he was there and that he will always always be there for her.

It was raining outside and it was the sound of the rain hitting the window that woke Abhi up from his sleep. He checked the time. 2:22. Angel’s time. He got up and walked to Akshu’s bed. Like she has been for the last month, Akshu was sleeping peacefully. She was weaned off the oxygen few days back and was slowly getting weaned off the medications one by one. Dr. Mahima was hoping she would wake up any day now. Abhi kissed Akshu’s forehead and sat next to her holding her hand. The bruises on her face have almost healed and she was starting to look like her old self.

Abhi put Akshu’s hand on his cheek and closed his eyes.

“Abhi….” Abhi woke up with a jerk and looked at Akshu who was still sleeping. I must have imagined it.

“Abhi…” it came out as barely a whisper from Akshu whose eyes were still closed.

“Akshu! I’m here Akshu!” He couldn’t believe it. Was she waking up?

“I….love…you Abhi.”

“I love you too, Akshu. Please open your eyes I’m here.” Abhimanyu couldn’t feel his feet on the ground. He never felt such happiness before. His Akshu was walking up.

“please….please…” Akshu was still whispering and her eyes were still closed.

“Kya hua meri Jaan? I am here, Akshu. Can you hear me?”

“Abhi. Please. Abhi.” It was if Akshu was begging him.

“Are you in pain, Akshu? Please tell me.”

“Ignore mat karo…..dard hota hai, Abhi.”

“Akshu I’m right here. Can you hear me? Open your eyes please. I am right here, my love. Please open your eyes.”

“Aaru!” Akshu couldn’t hear anything Abhi was saying. “Rukh jao, Aaru! Mat karo aisa!”

Abhi finally realized Akshu was semi-conscious and couldn’t hear him.

“Abhimanyu aisa mat karo….Aaru. Aaru ke liye mujhe tumse door hona hoga!” Akshu was still talking and Abhi wondered if he should call Dr. Mahima forgetting that he himself was a doctor too.

“Please mat kaho I don’t exist for you. Dard hota hai” Akshu begged in her sleep.

“Akshu I’m sorry! I’m so sorry I said that to you. Please wake up.” Abhi cried. While a minute ago he was so happy, now he felt only pain. His Akshu was hurting because of him and he couldn’t do anything.

“Aaru! Aaru don’t go! Please stop” Akshu started to scream and her heart rate started to go up again. Nurses and Dr. Mahima rushed in hearing the beeping of the machines, pushed Abhi to the side to stabilize Akshu.

Abhi stepped back. He wanted to pull his own hair and punch himself. He wanted to feel the pain Akshu was feeling. He was the cause of her pain. But Aarohi? What has Aarohi done? Why was Akshu getting so upset about Aarohi?

Abhi decided to talk to her later but for now his focus was back on Akshu who was back to sleeping quietly after Dr. Mahima gave her an injection.

Few hours later, Abhi opened his eyes to see sunlight creeping inside the window. He looked at his watch again. 5:55 am. Angel’s time again. He fell asleep sitting on the chair next to Akshu’s bed. He looked at her and couldn’t believe his eyes. Akshu was awake, looking at him with a tiny smile.

“Akshu! Akshu, can you hear me?” Abhi wondered if he was dreaming.

“Hi Abhi.” Akshu whispered.

“Hello my love” Abhi said laughing as he took Akshu’s hand and kissed it.

Akshu was talking to him. She recognized him. She was fine. She was was fine. He wanted to kiss her and hug her and hold her but tried to control himself. He wanted to run to Dr. Mahima and hug her. He wanted to scream and dance.

Abhi….” Akshu started speaking. Her voice was barely audible.

“Yes Akshu? Tell me please”

“Abhi….sorry Abhimanyu.” Akshu’s smile faded as if she just remembered something.

“No. Abhi. Just Abhi. Tumhara Abhi.”

“Aaru? Aaru chali gayi!”

“Aarohi is fine. Okay? She will come later to see you. Don’t worry about her.”

“Okay. I’m tired now.”

“Close your eyes and sleep”

“Aaru?”

“I’ll wake you up when Aarohi comes, okay?” Abhi said as he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

Akshu nodded and went back to sleep.

Abhimanyu really wondered what Aarohi has done that Akshu was so worried about her even in this state. He was going to talk to her before Akshu sees her.
