Govinda films are fluff but it is not easy to do comedy or match dance steps with Govinda. Karishma managed to match Govinda in dance and had good comic timing, for which she deserves credit.

Karishma had no grooming, make up or style sense or PR or media savvy skills. She learnt it from a scratch and is still not good at handling media. For her sheer hard work, improvement and managing to give hits in various genres, eclipsing top stars in films I mentioned, winning National award, paving way for Kapoor girls to act in films, she does deserve credit.

She is a trailblazer. Kareena is because Karishma was and they defied Kapoor khandaan diktat barring girls from doing films. Kareena accompanied Karishma to sets of her films and I am sure she learnt a lot observing Karishma from childhood on the sets.

Karishma was just 16 when she debuted without any family support or grooming, training. Her bad choices in films earlier are understandable.

She had zero support or counsel from her family.

Different subjects were barely made in 90s. This is why she has Zubeida and Fiza only.

But it cannot be taken away from her that she does have more hits, National award, and overshadowed co stars in many films like Jeet, Biwi no1, Raja Hindustani, Fiza, Zubeida, Saajan Chale Sasural, HSSH, DTPH, getting more attention, reviews and awards than co stars.

She struggled more being a first generation female actor from Kapoor family.

It is not her fault if range of films like 2000s, 2010s were not made in 90s. 90s was limited scope and even Tabu had to do crap like Vijaypath, Haqeeqat etc to keep afloat..

Rani and Preity also worked with Govinda BTW but never matched comic timing or dance steps and those films failed. Nor do I recall Preity overshadowing Madhuri in Yeh Raaste hain Pyar ke the way Karishma did to MD in DTPH and won a National award for it.

Anyway films like Black, Chameli, Dev, Omkara were not made in 90s at all so actors had less choices. Multiplexes made these films viable in 2000s. In 90s any serious film was called an art film and seen as potential flop or commercial risk.

This is why Aamir has only Earth and Sarfarosh as more serious and risky subjects in 90s while rest of his films were commercial capers and he did more diverse work in 2000s from Lagaan onwards.

Karishma began leaving work when she was about to get married and hardly worked after marriage. Unlike Kareena who never stopped working. So comparing later era filmography is pointless.

so the only actor Karisma didn't overshadow is salman khan?

Even Kareena's debut was kind of off beat..she wasn't presented as a glam doll and it wasn't a safe bet..and of course flopped.

She rightfully acknowledges Karishma for paving the way and making things easier for her..Karishma struggled and made it on her own..no two ways about that.

She didn't have n easy life and often speaks how she likes the fact that Kareena does what she wants to do and doesn't get led, influenced or pressurized by anyone..she didn't have that choice.

Madhubala did numerous films but Anarkali is her only iconic role. She had some hits but Mughal E Azam was her biggest hit and people remember her only for that film.

Aishwarya did numerous films but Nandini, Mansi, Paro, Binodini, Sunehri, Jodhaa are her iconic roles. People remember her for those roles. Her biggest hit may be Endhiran in Tamil and Dhoom 2 in Hindi but people consider her biggest hit to be Devdas.

Kareena did numerous films but people remember her only for Poo and Geet role. Her biggest hit may be 3 Idiots but people consider her biggest hit to be K3G.

And yet here we are, 21 years later, still talking about her and whether she deserves it 😉

Wrong to link madhubala only to mughal e azam

Her most famous songs which everyone knows is from other movies

like tandi hawa kali ghata, ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, ayiyee meherbaan, ayega anewala etc

and ppl remember mughal e azam for prithviraj kapoor and her clash and songs

We who are born 30 years after her death know her movies and songs so she cannot be compared to ash or karrena

after 50 years ppl may not know whose ash or kareena but madhubala shall be remembered

Karishma is much better than kareena

At 17 years only she could dance better than kareena at 28 or 38

At 22 she did dil to pagal hai and at 21 raja hindustani and overshadowed madhuri and amir khan although she had smaller time on screen

Also she left movie with bobby deol and struggled did not get launch like star kids

She debuted opp a south star i think in prem qaidi

Kareena was touted no 1 before her debut hyped like anything like ranbir kapoor and although had 20 flops still got films

Karsishma started from ground to reach top

Kareena started from top with crown and than fell as she did duds and not good at acting or dancing or beauty etc

Karishma career can be compared to mumtaz or vidya balan who started slow and struggled years
