Have seen Premam, it was a good one. Maybe time for a rewatch.

I have seen few Telugu ones and most are OTT so no patience for those.. i tried to watch them and the only one I liked was ala vaikuntapuralo.

As for Mani Ratnam, his earliest films are the best.. Agni natchathiram, roja, thiruda thiruda and the awesome music by ARR.. classic combos that are evergreen. Love Mouna Ragam too.. Mohan n Revathy. The old old classics in Tamil are a fave too. Remakes loses the plot in the translation so dont really watch them.

Raame aandalum raavane aandalum -- watched this in prime, offbeat flick that was interesting. I cant recall the names of a few others that I liked, offbeat and all new faces.

All the old Mani ratnam films r classics,

But O have to give credit to Saniya - she was decent in her portrayal of a Tamilian from Madurai, but as usual the accent and the typical "aiyyo" just no longer cuts it out for me (the worst till date for me is still Deepika Padukone from Chennai Express - she was honestly a dhabba, but atleast there the other Tamil actors spoke the language, yahaan pe just a peppering of Tamil words with no actual sentances - made it seem extremely jarring at times knowing that those areas hardly have anyone understand Hindi, forget about speaking it so fluently.

MS is boring as fuk i was like ok sure not accurate representation hut they have tried especially with the wedding th only good thing is music. And am so happy happy hear Justin Prabhakar in himdi his dear comrade is my fav even if do not understand ..There is absolutly no meat in the relationship whatsoever to sell that long distance relationships are hard

I am also a huge Telugu and Malayalam fan, but Tamil movies are my soft spot being a Tamilian.

Loved the recos here, agree with Premam and Sai Pallavi movies being really good.

Started watching Telugu movies because of Vijay Deverakonda - Loved him in Pelli Chupulu, Geeta Govindam, Dear Comrade and NOTA. Another gem was Mahanati - that was brilliant, one of the best biopics I have seen in a very long time.

In my Southies list I stick to the simpler stories - cannot bear through the more OTT fights ones anymore - No patience for them anymore. The oldies are still my favourite - Huge Mani Ratnam fan for his romantic movies, would always recommend Mouna Raagam, Alaipayuthey and OK Kanmani to this who have not seen it (the OG and none of the remakes)

Thanks NM for the recommendation list - will surely check some of them out if I haven't already. BTW share the same disdain for remakes as you mentioned - just land up loosing the nuances from the original, especially when it comes to some of the literal translated dialogues 🤦‍♀️.

And you are welcome about the rec lists.. happier to recommend and have more people watch some gems that I sometimes end up finding on brim😆

I am looking forward to Skylab it looks so fun and nights can add life to anything

.Mahanati is seriously the best biopic I agree even if I had no idea about who savior was it was so engaging and good and I hate biopics and the glorification this was well rounded. I lived Oh baby and I highly recommend that on Netflix and ofcourse majili on amazon

Satyadev's choice of script is really good, this will be a good movie.

Brochevarevaru Ra is a good one too in which he is a parallel lead

+1 to that. I tried so hard to give it a chance but was sorely disappointed with the storytelling - it was just not convincing in anyway, neither the long distance neither the conflicts.

Loved the music and thanks for reminding me where I heard Justin's musice before - I loved loved Dear Comrade's songs.

BTW, the background music in the beginning - did it remind anyone of the "Minnale" (OG of Rehna hai Tere Dil Main) tune - that music piece is one of my favorite Harris Jayaraj compositions. Adding the YT link of both and let me know if I was the only who found it sounding very similar.

Please do share your recs NM - would love to explore more, as I actually rediscovered Malayalam and Telugu movies quite recently, so I am sure I have a lot left to explore.

Loved Oh Baby & Majili - Samantha was a treat to watch in both of them and their pairing in Majili was so beautiful - in fact loved them since Ye Maaya Chesave (preferred it to the Tamil version coz it had a better ending IMO) and Manam - both a very light movies, but Samantha really does shine in both.

Skylab looks super interesting - Nitya Menon is a brilliant actress, so her projects are ones I really look forward to since OK Kanmani and 100 days of Love - her pairing with DQ was always superb. Another one of her older gems Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju is a beautiful one with a real old world charm - would really recommend it if you guys haven't watched it already.
