Maybe a separation, distance knowing where they stand is needed at this point. There are still things that they both have to work on in their lives. I get the feeling, she has grasped on to what he meant and what he had let her know, when all the old certainties in her life were absent. Her family, right when things were finally becoming better for her. The one for whom she had strived.
They need to step back, and see things from the other side. Maybe she has understood his need for distance now, his need to work out whatever is wrong in his life. I hope so. The same way, he needs to keep aside his hurt where she is concerned and see things from her side. Her life and all the issues which she so valiantly tried to work through. I wonder if he knows about the absence of her family in her life. She knows now what role others have played in how things panned out between them. Has he given it any thought?
This was lovely GN, poignant in a way. In many ways they both are lonely souls, who always tried to handle things by themselves or had to. We don't know what his life was like beyond the wealth and privilege, and maybe at some point she was what he had also grasped on to.
@bold Spot on, P! Kirti always thought his life is a bed of roses, but no one knows what personal hell he has been through. Not everyone gets to see the demons a person is facing.
But I don't agree that they need space. They had enough time away from each other, what they probably need is to be shoved into a room and key thrown away, so they can address the elephant in the room. Both, especially Nishit, is afraid of rejection. Kirti, like Shradha said, thinks she has missed the bus. But she wants to salvage whatever she can at the moment. For them to understand where the other is coming from space is the last thing they need. They should learn to communicate, even if it means yelling at each other.
